He's not.

He should be. A&M is only the third team to beat him at home in the last five years and the first to have him down by more than one score at any point in the game. And we did it with a first year coach and a freshman QB.

I'm not a fan of it, but Saban will have to learn to evolve with the times because it's not going away. He has used it at times with some success, himself.

Spread offense is here to stay.. and it's really not gimmicky at all. It's not much difference than the offense the saints or falcons run when you boil it down to core concepts.

i don't think saban has coached against many spread teams. i know lsu played west virginia and oregon lately and that helped them learn how to defense it. the main thing is the qb runs. in a traditional offense the qb is not accounted for but in a spread your defense has to. as far as the multiple wr sets, that has been happening for decades. not all spreads are alike.

2009 Florida ran the same offense as 2008 Florida with the same athletes and Bama beat 'em like they stole something. I wonder why the poster that listed the spread offenses that have beaten Bama left out this particular game?

That's why he don't like those kind of offenses, his defense cant stop them. Bamas d line is too big to chase a qb like that. I think bama has a new thorn in their side, like aTm.

Freeze hasn't even installed half of his offensive playbook yet and doesn't run at the tempo he would like. Bama better prepare their anus.

To me, it is not fair to the defense that the offense is set and ready for a couple seconds while the defense is struggling to get in position ON PLAYS WHERE THE OFFENSE SUBSTITUTES. I have no issue with the no-huddle offense as long as there are no substitutions. Once the offense substitutes, there has to be some way to let the defense get as set and ready as the offense. From what I saw, this was a frequent problem and not just because the coaches "weren't prepared".

Holy shite what a pussy.

It is primarily used to exploit mismatches

Looking at it as objectively as I can, I wouldn't call it a "gimmick" and it pushes the rules the same way Nick Saban pushes the rules in recruiting. The offense takes advantage of an edge.

I haven't figured out what I would do. You have to keep using a play clock, and you can't force the offense to wait an extra five seconds when they might be penalized for delay. But something needs to be tweaked so that the defense isn't barely getting into a spot when the offense snaps and is ready to go.

You do what Georgia did. You fake injuries.

Two types of spread teams

1. Teams with inferior talent that use it as a tool to win

2. Teams that can succed with it. i.e. - aTm, oregon

To win consistantly everyone must have a good d, but on offense you need:
Elite recievers and many of them(easy to find in texas)
Rb's and many of them(easy to find in texas)

What seperates the good from great ones are the o lines and the special qb's

Problem with Angie's next year is they are an ankle sprain away from losing two games.

Well, damn if they were fake, I wish that those players had come back to the game, or practiced through the entire next week.

The spread O's that have had success in the SEC have always had exceptional QBs (Tebow, Cam, and now Manzel) and very good OL's. Are that many of those types (QBs) out there?

In Saban's case either he's going to have to change the way he approaches them or there will have to be a rules change. Not sure how much Chavis substitutes but he overpopulates the field with speed which attempts to level the playing field.

Who isn't?

edit: I'm sorry you're right. If Mettenberger had sprained an ankle.....who'd know?

What kind of football pussy thinks scores count differently depending upon the quarter in which they're scored?

Scoring is scoring. Bama was held to 10 points in the second half by A&M ... Woopty do ....

IMHO, there will be changes coming with regards to the "spread" offense.

Teams run the "spread" offense b/c the coaches are not good enough to teach toughness, physicality, and discipline. It's the easiest offense to run, and it requires little knowledge and understanding of defenses and such. I know aTm (along with Oregon & WVU) fans will scream bloody murder; however, the facts are what they are.

Pretty soon, something will be done b/c the advantage is FAR and BEYOND that of an equal playing field.

Teams like LSU and Bama are actually coached to play the game of football and to BEAT the man in front them. Not try to run around him, or chop block him, or run 7-wide the entire game; that's PS3 football .

The spread offense really and truly is a "cheap" offense.

Yeah, Urban Meyer is a fricking idiot.

This is the single most uneducated football opinion I've ever read, and I've read the shite they post on Texags. This is special even by those lofty standards. You literally have no clue what you're talking about.

Myth: if you run spread offense you can't play physical and you can't have an elite defense
