AJ McCarron Pro Prospects

Do you think McCarron enters the draft this year or returns for senior season?

If he enters this season, in what round would he likely be drafted?

If he returned for senior season, how likely would it be that his draft stock increased?

Would love to have him back next year to somewhat offset a less experienced Oline.

I don't think he will go. I haven't seen any projections that have him going in the first round. I think he might get drafted in the late second to early third round. The only thing that might persuade him to go is the changes to the O-line.

This. If the O line takes a drop off he will take the money and go but if the O line stays above average I think he will stay his senior season and try to up his draft stock.

But how would he know this? He wouldn't really know this until next year.

I think whether he returns or not will depend on his evaluations at the end of the season, the opinions of his coaches and his family. It seems Coach Saban really gets through to his players most of the time concerning the NFL draft.

My opinion is that he stays...my hope also. As to his prospects, I think he will be the first successful starting NFL QB to come out of Alabama in a very long time.

Kareem Jackson is the only guy I know of that Saban told to stay but went anyway. It was a rough first couple of years for him but he seems to be getting it together a bit this season.

I gotta feeling he stays no matter what his evaluation. He's always dreamed of playing for Bama. I think that keeps him here for his senior year.

I'm not sure a Bama born and raised QB would be the 1st QB to leave the Tide early for the draft, just doesn't seem right. Maybe a Texan or Californian, but an Alabamian?

Though most of Bama's great QBs were before the rules were in place that allowed you to leave early, and there really hasn't been any who could have left early since.

It killed me to see him struggle those first 2 years with the Texans, because his skill as a lock down corner/ball hawk and tackler were evident at Bama from his freshman year. I'm glad he is getting his feet under him this year.

I didn't think he was struggling, he was just average.

The question is how much can he improve his stock?

We are not all the sudden going to throw the ball 35 times a game. His stock is about a high as it's gonna get I'm afraid. He's a 3-4 rd pick, but has a legitimate shot at starting for an NFL team.

The best thing for him would be to go sit user a vet for a couple years than have his chance to shine

He was bad, but he has one of the worst DB coaches his rookie year that screwed him up.

This year he's a very high end #2 / low end #1. That front 7 helps out a lot too...

And now you just made me think of us having a first round draft pick talent in the secondary during the 2010 season. Instead of a true freshman, we would have had an experienced senior. Damn.

I think AJ is a first round after his Senior year.

Just as he's improved with experience from last season, he's capable of demonstrating improvement next season. He's very good now, but if he can polish his game it will make him all the more attractive to NFL teams. As a 3rd year starter, he'd have more control to run the offense and make audibles. If he can show better accuracy on his long balls, it would drastically improve his stock IMO.

And indirectly he could improve his stock due to the '14 QB crop likely being weaker than the '13 crop.
