Serious Question for Auburn fans

The coaching staff at AU is not horrible. They didn't forget how to coach in a year. Are they great? Nope. However, there are some really good coaches on that staff (BVG, Grimes come to mind).
The talent is there. There is no way all those players were over-rated coming out of HS. They've clearly not been developed, but there is talent on campus.
Here is the serious question:
What do you think is really going on? Don't give the simple answer of "Chiz sucks". Do you think there is something below the surface that is impacting focus of the staff? Do you think it is a series of issues that have been buildig and are just now starting to manifest themselves?
This isn't a flame thread and I hope it doesn't turn into one. I'm geniunely interested in the in-depth opinions of the situation from the fans it impacts the most.

I wish I had a clear answer to give you. It's really astounding.

I'm not going to use it as a "you were right" or "you were wrong" later, dude. I'm just curious of your opinion. I've obviously got my thoughts, but AU fans likely don't care what Bama fans think on the matter. I, however, do care what AU fans think.

It's the culture I think. Way too soft and buddy buddy.

I was being genuine with what I just said. I've thought about it multiple times, and it just seems like our luck couldn't get any worse. It's like, if there's something there to go wrong, it'll happen to Auburn. It's pretty crazy.

to cause such a mass implosion? no

So there's only one thing left

You answered your question in the third sentence.

There doesn't seem to be a mean streak anywhere to be found in Auburn right now. Chizik is a nice guy, and it has made our players pussies at times.

I hear ya, but even if the talent hasn't been fully developed, it is good enough to remain close against teams like Arky, Ole Miss, A&M, etc. It is more than just a lack of developing talent.

Combination of:
Bad hires made by Chizik that don't necessarily mesh together under whatever he considers his "scheme".
Terrible decisions on the recruiting trail. More specifically a lack of size at LB and awful QB scouting.
Culture seems to be a huge problem and they are having trouble letting go of the 2010 NC gear and such.
Add all of it together and this is the product.

I honestly feel that we hired a poor head coach and Gus Malzahn masked many issues with an offense that could over come a lot.

I'll try to give it a run-down...
1) Coaches show too much favoritism to certain players. Not all, just some, and are too quick to react to other players. Mike Dyer started all season in 2011 even though he was about to be kicked out, yet Mike Blakely can't stay on the field because of 2 fumbles.
2) Not playing the best players. It was clear during Summer that Robenson Therezie and Josh Holsey were 2 of Auburn's best corners. It took the coaches forever to play Holsey, and we hardly ever see Therezie. Same thing with Erique Florence, and his "mystery suspensions". Same thing with Jake Holland starting over Cass McKinzy until Vandy week, then he had the best game of any Auburn MLB since Josh Bynes or Tray Blackmon, only to be replaced with Jake Holland again as starter.
3) Some coaches are too soft (looking at Trooper and Luper). Players are running to them in time of difficulty and getting treated like children.
4) We have a coaching staff and team divided. No doubt about it.
5) Gene Chizik taking over the offense and defense. He's been doing it with defense since he got there, and started doing it with offense last year with Malzahn.
6) We haven't been able to recruit the right quarterback aside from Cam Newton.
7) There's hardly any player development going on at all. See #2.
8) Auburn only has a couple of coach assistants, and the rest are recruiters. Which is fine as long as the coaches/recruiters even themselves out, but ours haven't.
9) Gene Chizik is just a terrible coach. Great person, but terrible head coach.
Issues everywhere...

From what I heard this past weekend, coaches not being able to do what they can do and want to do, from meddling from both other coaches and administration. If you are going to bring in coaches, at least bring in coaches who have the same philosophies or hire one who has the same as yours.

I have pondered the same question every night since the Miss St game and the only thing that I can explain is this. Regardless of OCs/DCs we are making the same mistakes. We look ill prepared on defense regardless of who is coaching them. Our DL is frickING terrible. Our QBs should even be on scholarship. We are one QB away from being an descent team. Our defense has given up and for those that say they suck regardless I'll add this. If your QB was Clint Moseley wouldn't you quit. A lot of this wrambling, but there is so much shittiness in our football team, its hard to make sense of any of it.

Well its better we go ahead and get rid of Chiziks arse than allow him to sink our program further into the ground and for that I thank you for allowing us AU fans a chance to realize what a failure of a coach we have.

This is the same question many average Auburn graduates and fans have been asking since Utah State last year. I mean the coaches and athletic department have a very "keep it in the family" attitude when it comes to answering even the simplest questions. Gene is probably just too daft to answer simple questions.

I think the one thing that everyone is missing is that the shooting this summer took a much harder toll on the team than we thought. That combined with the plethora of injuries, the death of Jay Proschs mother, Joe Bagwell, and the downward spiral after the first few losses has removed all motivation from this team. WE saw them quit on Saturday and they need a major overhaul in philosophy to turn things around.
