Per game averages and national rankings after yesterday's games:
LA Tech - 53.8 pts (#1 FBS), 538.7 yds (#9 FBS)
Michigan - 33.8 pts (#37), 418.5 yds (#55)
Akron - 33.0 pts (#44), 462.0 yds (#30)
UCLA - 31.7 pts (#50), 505.3 yds (#16)
Arkansas State: 31.3 pts (#51), 448.7 (#36)
Besides all averaging better than 30 points and 400 yards per game, what else do these 5 teams have in common?
To put the above in perspective, Auburn's offense is averaging 16.2 points (#115) and 287.5 yards (#116) per game.

Former Auburn OC's that are successful against inferior defenses?

What is they all employ former AU Offensive Coordinators?

I don't think this really matters. Arkansas and Ole Miss have talent on defense that's VASTLY inferior to our offensive talent, and we couldn't do crap against either one.
We are the biggest example of coaching ineptitude I've ever seen.

Yes, that's correct: all five of those teams have former AU OCs running their offenses now (I was surprised to learn that Noel Mazzone was OC at UCLA). What's also interesting is that every one has been in their current jobs for less than two full seasons. And other than Gustav at Arky State, they were all fired from their AU gigs.
As to the "inferior defenses" comment, outside of LSU and MSU, the next highest statistically ranked defenses we've faced are Ole Miss and LAMO. So it's not like we've run a gauntlet of great defensive teams...

I realize that. Would you hire any of them back as your first choice? Because I'm not sure any of them make my short list.

No, just found it interesting. They were all considered failures at one point at AU, at least enough to get canned. And yet they're all doing pretty well this season, while we aren't.
BTW, I would have included Hugh Nall's numbers for this year, but for some reason I couldn't find Southern Ag Carriers on any of the NCAA rankings.

A good fit for one school may not be a good fit for another.
This could be the case for most if not all of those OCs.

Borges would be on my short list. Always loved his style of offense and when he was allowed to do some of his stuff we had an offense. Later on his was dumbed down like all the others under Tubs.
And yes, I wanted Borges ahead of Malzahn.
I never wanted Franklin even though his offense has worked well every where he has been. His style was never going to go over at Auburn, even if he was hanging 40 a game in the SEC, Auburn wouldn't accept a pass heavy offense like that.

Borges in a heartbeat.
Before Tubs handcuffed him the man had great ideas on how to get talent on the field at the same time and make use of it. His 2004 gameplan vs UGA with Caddy and Ronnie on the field at the same time with Campbell faking pitches and tosses and handoffs to them was unreal.

I don't get the Borges love. He was alright, I guess.

From the ESPN report of the 2004 UGA game
quote:
Auburn's West Coast offense gave Georgia a variety of looks, mixed plays masterfully and used Ronnie Brown and Williams every way it could on the way to a 17-0 halftime lead.
quote:
"They came out and did bootlegs, options and a lot of different things," Georgia defensive end David Pollack said. "They didn't really put themselves in bad predicaments."
We put up 404 yards, 218 passing and 186 rushing. Obviously, we had talented players but Auburn has proven before they can recruit them, we just need the coaches to play them.
