Why did our D look so much better in Cotton Bowl?

We all thought our defense was going to improve under Haynes based on that performance...so what happened? Did Bobby P (the offensive genius) really make that big a deal on Defense? Did the seniors that graduated make that much of an impact?

Didn't that same K-State offense that we pretty much shut down just put up 50 on Miami last Saturday?

I'm at a bit of a loss to understand what the hell happened...

Jake Bequette, Jerry Franklin and Jericho were leaders....

We don't have this on the defensive side of the ball now!

Losing Franklin, Bequette, and Jericho hurt worse than I expected. I expected trouble in our secondary, but we seem to be in worse shape at LB than expected. We lost a smaller Franklin who led the team in tackles 4 years in a row and gained a larger Tank who was great at DE but who is having trouble adjusting to the new position.

I was in Manhattan for KState-Miami and couldn't believe that was the same team that we comfortably beat in Dallas.

I thought this during the game as well but I think that performance was more about K-State screwing up than us necessarily dominating them. Yes we shut down their run game for the most part but their passing game didn't work more because Klein was either way off target or his receivers were dropping wide open passes. They killed numerous drives with their own mistakes in the passing game. I chalked it up to being a somewhat new scheme at the time and that's why they were wide open but it seems that is more so the norm.

Personally, I still believe the same as i did when Willie is here. Yes our defense needs to make strides, but damn our offensive line sucks and can't sustain drives meaning our defense doesn't get long extended rests between series. Tough to play good defense when your freaking offense has 18 second long drives.

and here we were thinking all off-season that our DL was the deepest unit on our team.

DL isn't the problem. It's LB and CB/S.

Agreed. We've looked great against the traditional run plays which is why I believe think we might actually perform a lot better against the more traditional teams on our schedule.
