Size of each SEC schools enrollment

Yeah this thread really has no substance. Just a thread of a random fact that I thought would be interesting. Never really looked into it before.

Disclaimer: These are all from Wiki where it was easy to have them all grouped together. All of which were linked to Spring of 2011.

1) Texas A&M: 49, 861
2) Florida: 49, 589
3) Mizzou: 33, 805
4) UGA: 33, 367
5) 'Bama: 31, 747
6) LSU: 28, 985
7) UT: 27, 523
8) UK: 27, 209
9) AU: 25, 469
10) Ark: 23, 199
11) MSU: 21, 424
12) OM: 16, 586 in Oxford, 20, 844. Either way same position
13) Vandy: 12, 714

*South Carolina: 45, 774 state-wide system, 30,721 in Columbia. Wasn't sure where to list us since we have so many who go to satellite campuses across the state. I didn't see any other SEC school that had so many satellite campuses that could change its official enrollment so dramatically. So SC is either 3rd or 6th.

Anything surprising? Or informative? Worthy of discussion?

Oddly enough, the Arkansas numbers are more than 10,000 higher from when I graduated in 97. I know we're not in line with other SEC schools, but it's still impressive (at least to me).

we are over 52k now, but i expect that number to go up a lot in light of the changes we've made in the last month.

'Bama has grown by about 12,000 since that year as well. As a younger grad it's hard for me to comprehend the student population being that much smaller.

They had the advantage of population, like UF does. They have so many people, just from in-state, add in out of state prospective students and they must get flooded with applications so I bet they can still accept a lot of kids but still maintain high academic standards.

jfc what is the point of having 50,000 college students? Can you even go to football and basketball games? Does every class have 200 people in it?

hah! You can't get in unless you are top 10% in your class and score some crazy 1300+ on the sat(someone correct me as I am sure I am off a bit).

I heard we had over 50k freshman applicants this year for spring. It is the same at texas, and this is why the state is working so hard to make more Tier 1 Universities in the state as we are running off a bunch of smart kids to border states.

I think California has over 7 Tier 1 universities.

I didn't realize how small Auburn was. Nothing else jumps out. Do you have land mass for campuses?

The University of Arkansas "system" has over 70,000 students according to their website. I doubt you should count systems.

If those numbers are accurate, I can see why A&M and Mizzou got the SEC invites.

I'm honestly not trying to be a dick - but doesn't having that large of a population kind of dilute the brand? I'm by no means saying it's not a quality education, but damn.

I have never been turned away from a football or basketball game I have attempted to go to.

Pretty much all of my classes freshman year had around 200 students in it (engineering). The professor would lecture to around 100-200 of us and then we would have smaller recitation session with our TA's or someone else for the smaller class feel.

Now in upper level I'd say my classes have around 50 or so.

Auburn, unlike most, isn't looking to expand it's enrollment at all in the near future. They are sitting on that 25,000 number.

Good thread though.
