He is eligible to coach again in the 2014-2015 season. His penalty expires in August, 2014.

Where will he go? Will a premier team take a chance on him, or will he have to take a second-tier job?

Some analysts were talking about him on Sirius/XM and they thought he would be perfect to take over for Boeheim at Syracuse, but they doubted he would be considered.

I think he would be perfect to take over a team like Georgia, Mississippi State, Wake Forest. All could possibly be open at that time.

I hope he doesn't go to Georgia. I think he would recruit Atlanta pretty well.

Pearl could be hired tomorrow. He would have some restrictions as a coach, but they aren't crippling.

There's no thinking that needs to be done in regards to him recruiting ATL. He thrived there when at UTK. He has/had a very good connection with the ATL Celtics AAU team amongst others.

If we can get our arena built by then I think it wouldn't be out of the question for us to make a run at him. Hell we did it with Nutt.

I can see him at a BCS school, but one with no basketball history (i.e. Colorado, Texas Tech, etc.) A program like that may take a chance on him.

I doubt he goes to a school like Syracuse.

He has a "show cause" on him... No one gets hired, it is not worth the effort.

The Memphis Tigers

The University has an underperforming coach, that as of right now, will get eaten alive in the Big East.

Pearl has relationships from previous recruiting trips to the city and surrounding areas.

Memphis is school that has exhibited no qualms in hiring a less than reputable character.

It is not that big of an issue. No one has to plead a case. Hire him. Write the committee a letter and tell him you will follow the rules. Follow up every 6 months until the probation is over to show that you are following the rules.

I wouldn't go that far. The big East has a lot of shitty teams this year. Their powerhouse days are behind them.

You could definitely be right about Memphis and Pearl, but he didn't have the connection in Memphis. His assistant, Steve Forbes, had the Memphis connection; and he is now the HC at NW Florida CC.

With all the comparisons he's drawn to Jim Valvano, it would be funny if Pearl is hired by NC State and wins a national championship with Mark Gottfried's players.

The plus side to hiring Pearl while he is under the show cause is that he can be had at a fairly large discount. If Pearl wanted to go to MSU or Ole Miss, they would be crazy to pass on exploring that option.

It's still not worth it. You would have to come up with a plan for some kind of disciplinary measure. He also can't leave campus to recruit.

if i'm reading it right, only one coach has ever gotten a HC gig after being hit with a SC penalty, Todd Bozeman.

You don't have to come up with a plan. The restrictions are already noted by the committee that censured him. You have to write a letter saying you agree to the restrictions. You have to report every 6 months that he has met the restrictions. One of the restrictions is the recruiting stuff that you mentioned. Not good, but not crippling. You only have to actually do something major if you want to challenge any of the restrictions.
