I see a lot of people mention the new rule eliminates backcounting but I don't interpret it that way. What do you think after reading about it and has anyone heard for sure?

I know it has probably been discussed at some point so SIG IDGAF.

I understand for this year only you can back count for the 2011 class and the 2010 class..next year there will be no back counting

correct, just for this one season... You can back-count for the previous two seasons, IF you signed under 25 in either of the two, by however much you undersigned in that one class.

Basically, it'd be crazy not to take your max this year, because you will only be able to take 25 from now on...

but I still think you can not sign more then 28 because of last years new rule..so the most you can back count would be 3 if you are going to sign 25 for 2012

Even under the current rule you can only "take" 25 per year. That hasn't changed and isn't changing. The difference is you can currently sign 28 to get your 25 new players, and in the future you can only sign 25 to get them. But it doesn't address backcounting, imo.

Just a straight forward example: Under the "28" rule assume a school has no early enrollees, no room to count anyone back, etc. They can sign 28 players in February. Later that year in the Fall, 25 of those players can be put on scholarship. If they have one early enrollee and room for him to count back, they can sign 29. One backcounts to the previous class, 28 for the "new" class....and 25 of those 28 can be put on scholarship in the Fall.

Under the new rule they can only sign 25 to get their 25 new players in the Fall. They don't have the extra 3 spots to take a chance with grade risks, etc. If someone can count back they could have 26 signees....one for the previous class, 25 for the new class.

Also under the new rule, if a player enrolls in the Summer after graduating they have to be one of the new counters in the Fall. They can not attend in the Summer and then not be a counter for that Fall (see LSU - Elliot Porter situation).

At least this is the way I read it.
