This is not a flame by any means or a thread about LSU being scared and hoping this blows up in Bamas face. This is a huge compliment to the staff that potentially two coaches could become head coaches next season. For all you Bama fans, in your honest opinion how will this affect your team? I'm not jumping to conclusions saying it's all negative bc the last title we won Pelini was already headed to Nebraska and our boys played lights out for Bo... What say you

We've only lost one assistant so far, no?

there's no way to tell. maybe if we could play the game when both assistants didn't have job offers and then play again when both of them have accepted other jobs, only then could we know.

If you can't get up for the NCG, you shouldn't be playing football. I think they'll play lights-out no matter what.

Saban has always run the defense and McElwain has about a five play playbook. It won't have any effect on the NCG whatsoever.

Miles thinks its like name that tune.
He will try and win the game with only 4 plays.

If smart and sunseri go then I imagine it'd hurt recruiting a bit, but as statedni doubt it has any effect on how the team plays in the ncg

The impact for the NCG? I guess it could be a good thing, keep the asst. coaches from spending so much mental energy on THE GAME that they get up-tight and have brain lock. May also help the kids stay loose for the game by emotions split with loved coaches moving on to new opportunities.
Coaches heading out can use this game as a recruiting tool for their next job so they will have additional personal incentive to have a great showing.

Impact on recruiting this year...not too much. The last two weeks has been about Saban taking on the lead recruiter slot for all of the kids in play. The impact could be bigger for next year's group as McElwain and Smart are still the lead recruiters for many of the kids they were chasing. At least there is plenty of time to deal with that this spring.

We lose 2-3 assistants every year. What's the difference? Both coordinators, assuming Smart leaves as well, will be available for the game. It shouldn't matter.

1. Short side option
2. Long pass to Randle (over/underthrown)
3. Run up middle
4. Run to a side

Do we really need anything else?

You should post less or not at all.

Saban creates the defense. Smart installs it, selects it, and calls it. Saban obviously has direct input and veto power, but to think that Smart's headphones are turned off during the game and he is nothing more than a placeholder and flunky is, frankly, idiotic.

And the offense is McElwain's, and it is quite effective. It has been tailored, as it should be, to meet Saban's demands, but it is all Jim McElwain.

How will this affect the National Championship game?

I am certain that any job interviews will be done before practice begins and will summarily end once they put on their pads. Any outside distractions will be put on hold until after the game. It's too important. Any athletic director who doesn't understand that obviously does not value football.

I think the boys will be fine, but if they lose, some idiots will post about how it was a distraction.

I consider Joe Pendry to be much valuable than either McElwain or Smart. He did a phenomenal job with the offensive line. Their run-blocking was incredible in '08 and '09 considering the fact that they were able to run the ball at will with pretty much zero passing game most of the time.
