Or why is everybody saying you will block them? Does it have something to do with FSU possibly getting better recruiting classes? Because they had arguably the best class last year on paper, and are looking at another top 5 class this year.

What am I missing, and what's the big deal?

Thanks in advance.

why in the world would we add FSU?

we gain nothing, really. we get our programming into hardly any more households, if any extra at all.

Another solid team that wouldn't water-down the conference.

can you imagine if they were the 14th team to balance out the East? UGa would get one more border rival that is closer to it's south Georgia talent than Auburn or Gainesville. Already, they hate considering SCar as a rival because they have other important games w/ UF, Auburn and Georgia Tech. I think UGa has more concerns than Florida.

I understand them not wanting the competition but I wish they would STFU bc I would much rather have FSU than mizzou

A lot more people nationwide would tune-in to watch a matchup of LSU/Ark/Bama/UF vs. FSU than they would those teams against someone like Mizzou, Clemson, etc.

We phucking hate them that's why.

I would like them to have a tougher road so bring those bastids on. This is a new stance for me BTW.

that isn't the most important part about expansion at all. and also, there is a board for this.

UF would be angrier than us but it would absolutely hurt UGA to add FSU. that is why i'd rather have Clemson or w/e. Clemson is a natural rival and another one we thoroughly dominate and have no recruiting angst against because the recruits always pick us.

No they wouldn't. You're tlaking about the random fan in random places, i agree with that, but overall you don't gain a large tv market like you do with mizzu.

I agree mizzu sucks and from a competitive aspect FSU is better, but they most certainly would not bring more viewers like you're suggesting.

Also clemson is in the same boat as FSU. Already in that market, not opening up a new tv market.

Because that would help FSU, and I hate FSU and I don't want anything good to happen to them.

Fair enough?

I understand this, but as a college football fan, the matchups this would create would be a lot more interesting than with Mizzou. And Tallahassee is a fun place to visit for big games.

Also, I wanted to direct it at gator fans, and figured I would get a better response here.

You must understand that overall money is the driving factor to expansion. We already have FL viewers with UF. I'd expect us to try and add a VT (DC AND VIRGINIA views) Mizzou(ST. Louis and Kansas city viewers) Texas A&M (Texas viewers) and maybe WVU or someone out of left field. Bottom line is we are looking to expand viewers, and to do that we must seek out different parts of the south

+1000

Plus people act like having UF satisfies the viewers in Florida - which is ridiculous IMO. That's like arguing showing Giants games appeals to Jets fans. They are both major teams with major national profiles and separate fanbases.

Personally I think expansion would almost dictate the SEC get a second Florida team (unfortunately there is no viable option for a second Texas team). Especially by the time you work out the schedules you really benefit every team in the conference if you get to play teams in Florida and Texas regularly.

And yes Florida and FSU will generally get the pick of the recruits in Florida - but the ones they don't take will end up in the other SEC schools ranging from South Carolina to UGA to Bama or LSU.

People who argue against FSU in the SEC for recruiting reasons have it backwards. FSU already recruits at an elite level when they have a good coach in place - what benefits the SEC more is raising their general profile in the state... and that happens with more games of interest played in Florida

i've heard that UGA is adamantly opposed to Clemson because it's so close to Athens and UGA's reluctance to have another annual rival. Clemson does recruit Georgia heavy (James Davis), and with the resources of the SEC, they'd be a much bigger threat. However, i don't see anyway that Clemson comes before FSU because of the 2, FSU does offer more. And Clemson's President is obsessed w/ the ACC academic association, whereas FSU is waking up to smell the coffee that they are in a basketball conference and will have to regularly play games in Pittsburgh, Boston, Syracuse and maybe Storrs.

My point is, it's not like FSU's recruiting is nonexistent in the ACC. They're currently having absolutely not problems in that department.

So would it make that much of a difference in their classes if they moved to the SEC? I just don't see it. UGA, UF, and somewhat LSU, Bama, & Auburn are all still battling with FSU for the same recruits right now anyway.

And if the difference is something like 3 spots in the rankings, it's plainly obvious that the difference between the #6 class and the #9 class is very marginal. It's what you do with those players afterwards that counts the most.

while i agree with all you said my point is sadly the whole expansion business that is going on has little to do with the game itself. while a FSU vs Alabama or FSU @ LSU would be a great game, atmosphere and etc it doesn't mean much. all the big wigs are looking at how much adding an FSU would dilute profits, what markets they bring in, will the recruiting advantage FSU gets hurt too many SEC schools and etc. while those criterion won't be met or matter to other schools there are some, like UGA and UF, that would block it, and south cackalacky likes being included so they joined the club and i doubt you will see FSU coming

plus, i really doubt it now because the ACC seems to have convinced all its members to stay and they are raiding the big east so it only makes sense now for FSU to stay because the ACC seems to be one of the conferences that will persevere through the time of expansion

Ummm, frick FSU x 1,000. They had their chance to join the conference and their coward legendary coach decided to take the easy road to the ACC. Let them stay there. Their fanbase is fickle and they're a bunch of bandwagoners.

FSU didn't want any part of the SEC in 1991. I don't think they want a part of it now either.

They have a chip on their shoulder about academics. At least now they can say they are in the ACC which in general is a better overall academic conference than the SEC.

They can claim their friends are smarter than us even if they aren't.
