This just in: SEC > Big10 at 3-0, regardless of what happens with tOSU v arky.

Big XII is the other contender? SEC is what 3-3 right now in bowls? Will wait and see what happens with arky, LSU, and AU.

What do you take from bowl games? This is the real problem overall. Non-conference games are played too early in most of the conferences and bowl games are too distant from the last regular season game.

How would you say who the best conference is then?

My rating system had it looking like this before the bowls:

Big 12
Southeastern
Big Ten
Pacific-10
Atlantic Coast
Big East
Mountain West
Western Athletic
USA
Mid-American
Sun Belt

Because the numbers are so comprehensive, most rating systems you'll see mirror this order. FYI, the SEC is closer to the Big 12 than it is to the Big Ten. I don't understand all the love for the Big Ten.

Also fyi, the SEC played more other BCS schools per capita than did any other BCS conference.

I'd say that the bowl games are about half as important as all the ooc games combined. All the games are roughly evenly-matched, most of them involve good teams playing good teams, and the top conferences can increase or decrease their value significantly.

The Big 12, going into the bowls, was 40-8 overall, and the SEC was 41-7. With everything factored in, most of the rating systems put the Big 12 at the top--marginally. A poor showing by the Big 12 and a good showing by the SEC (there's still time ) could switch that. In fact, in 2008, almost all the systems had the Big 12 at #1 going into the bowls, but the SEC finished at the top.

I watch the regular season games. If you watch enough you can see who the best teams/conferences are.

Bowl games have to many variables involved to give them validity, except for the BCSCG.

The numbers I cited include all games, yes. I just looked at the Colley Matrix while posting. Pretty interesting table. LINK

Notice the SECW won all games played against the top 11 conferences.

The 3 big 11-1 teams at the top (wiscy, tOSU, and sparty)? The SEC probably has more "top to bottom?"

So, as I understand it, the Big XII is the leader (based mostly on OOC games played and a ratings system), with SEC 2nd and Big10 3rd.

shouldnt we reserve judgement til the bowl season is done? This is turnin out to be like pre season rankings.... We all know how well that works out.

So, the 6th best SEC team loses to the second best ACC team, the 8th best SEC team loses to the best Conference USA team, and the 9th best SEC team loses to a bad North Carolina team in double OT and we suck as a whole?
