If UT and Bruce Pearl haven't been penalized YET for rules that he has confirmed to have broken, then why do Auburn fans think the Cam Newton case is closed and not being further investigated?

Bruce Pearl had a BBQ and lied about it.

He should be fired.

If Bryant was suspended for the year when he lied to the NCAA, Pearl is going to get hammered by them.

I think Cam would rush for 500 plus. No way Bruce can tackle him.

NCAA prez Mark Emmert.......

quote:

"I was not surprised by the volume or the vitriolic nature, but had we made a different decision, I do think it would have been worse," Emmert said. "There was no evidence that Auburn University had anything to do with that or the student-athlete had anything to do with that, and under the rules that exist today, he could play ball."

It's over. Time to get over it. The Newton's cheated and got away with it. Move on.

The main difference between the Bruce and Cam situations are that.

Suspending Cam Newton would have had a financially detrimental effect on the NCAA.

How? NCAA gets nothing from bowl games or tv deal for bowls and/or conferences. Even if they did, without AU, I think the bowls will still happen.

The difference is Cecil committed a wrong-not AU or Cam. He is not a member, much less a coach of an NCAA team.

Pearl got into trouble for lying and covering up more than the secondary violation he actually committed.

I was wrong on that one.

I still think the whole Cam situation is dirty as hell, and vastly more so than what Bruce did.

It might be. It is hard to tell truth from fiction. Like I said, Bruce's biggest sin was the cover up, not the crime. If he had come clean, probably a slap on the wrist (recruiting restrictions). Now, who knows how harshly the NCAA will be. It seems like Slive has tried to do him a favor, FWIW.

Yeah, right.

Mike Slive had absolutely no business suspending Pearl. Not while an NCAA investigation is ongoing. He'll applaud the Cam Newton ruling but suspend Pearl before the investigation has even concluded.

His suspension of Pearl to me seems like he is trying to short circuit any additional NCAA penalty. Also, Slive made a statment that the punishment would have been worse, but Pearl admitted his wrongdoing, etc., etc.

Even though he only admitted it after denying it and then being caught in a lie. I have nothing against Pearl, just giving an outsiders opinion. I don't think he should suffer more punishment than he already has received.
