Posted this earlier but no reply. Note question at end.

I was talking to my son-in-law, an Auburn grad/fan, last week before the Newton-agent allegations came out. I told him that it seems more often than not, when Auburn has top recruits and wins most of their games, AU is one step away from probation. History is one of the best teachers. I would not be surprised if other recruiting irregularities surfaced. Not making any accusations-- just saying I would not be surprised. As I said to my son-in-law, it takes powerful persuasion to induce top recruits to spend 4- 5 years living in Auburn, AL. I should know-- spent a good deal of time visiting my daughter who also graduated from there. Very good school, but you have to love rural life.

Let's suppose just for argument's sake that AU gets probation, once again. Does AU then have the record for most times on probation for football? Does anyone have those statistics?

Auburn's been on probation longer than any other SEC school. That's all I know, not sure how they stack up nationally.

yes, in football. if they get popped again, they will edge out texas a&m as the most penalized team in the sec and possibly the nation.

SMU and it's not even particularly close. There's a reason why they got the death penalty and it hasn't been used before or after since. That's how bad they were.

While it isn't for everyone, I spent 4 years there and loved it. For any homer looking out, you can say that about any place. For instance, I thought Baton Rouge was a shithole when I went there for a game several years ago. In reality, I know it isn't and it was probably the part of town I was in and just the fact that I didn't know my way around or where the crowd that I would enjoy was at.

I say this pretty unbiased too. I grew up an FSU fan and went to Auburn for engineering. I never gave a shite about Auburn or Alabama growing up. To this day I would rather beat UGA than Alabama since I have a lot of friends that are UGA alumni and I have only met one Bama grad.

Baylor may move up in the standings soon. The Waco Baptists don't want to be second to the Methodists (SMU) in anything.

I have a feeling Arizona State may have the top spot all by themselves at some point in the future. Dennis Erickson can't stay quiet forever.

Most of their previous violations were for baseball.

LOL

What have you done for me lately?

One school has been on probation since 1993 and they want to portray the other as dirty? lol

"I didn't know they played football." lol

No one said anything about Alabama, but we know it's never too far from an Auburn fan's thoughts.

That's because of how far they had their hand in the cookie jar when they got caught.

You don't honestly think SMU had the dirtiest football program do you?

They probably didn't have the dirtiest program in the SWC at the time, much less the country.

the death penalty smu got should count as like 5 or 6 by itself. THey totally devastated an entire conference.

even the governor was in on it

are you fricking kidding me? The school president, athletic director and the future governor of texas was paying athletes. The head coach and assistant were paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to keep their mouths shut.

And most of this happened while they were ON PROBATION already.
