In the last decade, no BCS Champion has fielded a defense that ranked lower than 23rd in the category of Total Defense. In the category of scoring defense, the lowest ranking has been 17th.

2009 Alabama- 2nd in Total Defense, 2nd in Scoring Defense

2008
Florida- 9th in Total Defense, 4th in Scoring Defense

2007 LSU- 3rd in Total Defense, 17th in Scoring Defense

2006 Florida- 6th in Total Defense, 8th in Scoring Defense

2005
Texas- 10th in Total Defense, 8th in Scoring Defense

2004
USC- 6th in Total Defense, 3rd in Scoring Defense

2003
LSU- 1st in Total Defense, 1st in Scoring Defense

2002
Ohio State- 23rd in Total Defense, 2nd in Scoring Defense

2001 Miami- 6th in Total Defense, 1st in Scoring Defense

2000
Oklahoma- 8th in Total Defense, 7th in Scoring Defense

The last ten BCS Champions have an averaged ranking of 7.4 nationally in Total Defense and 5.3 in Scoring Defense.

This is completely new and an uncharted pathway through the treacherous German lands.

Then LSU should not have any problems at all beating Auburn then...Every Auburn fan on this friggin board has accepted and admitted the fact that LSU has a superior overall defense...

This is just ONE game. Over the course of a season, I'll take a great defense over a great offense.

All of them also had good QBs except for Alabama and Ohio State.

While I take heart in those statistics, look up how many have won a BCS championship with passing offense in the lower 10 or so.

I'd also be interested in seeing the correlation between a top 25 offense and winning the BCS title.

What was the ranking of the defenses these champions beat? I know in 2007 OSU supposedly had the #1 defense, but that didnt work for them did it?

We are 92nd in total offense and more importantly 70th in scoring offense

Originally, I had the wrong numbers listed for LSU in 03. Accidentally cited 02 Defensive numbers which were also very good. I'll take the blame for his false claim.

'07 OSU might have been the worst top 2 ranked BCS team I've ever seen. They were on par with last year's Cincinnati team.

So you could very well enter the worst 20 offenses by the end of the season.
