HUNH offense of Malzahn.. is designed to "play fast"

That's what he said, right? To allow the offense around 80 plays a game, versus the regular 60-65 plays an offense normally has...

So what's happening in 2010?

It's the same story. Auburn ran 65 plays against Arkansas State and 67 at Mississippi State.

What's goin on?

Newton has a rough understanding of the offense at best. It is pretty obvious. Doubt you will see much of the true HUNH this year.

Gus said in an interview that we tried to slow things down and run out the clock against State but we couldn't execute in the redzone. Running less plays in the State game was intentional, although, State's defense also contributed to the speed.

A few things. If you watched last year against Ut we slowed the offense down to read their blitzes and get the allignment right. Gus tends to do this until he gets into a rythem. Also a new QB back there has slowed things down some as well. Against MSU the loss of Ziemba and fannin really slowed the offense down to the point it looked so slow it was out of sync. I expect it to be more up tempo at home vs Clemson.

Sorry, didn't mean to bring rational thought or factual statements into here so fast. I'll let it brew out a little more next time.

re: HUNH offense of Malzahn.. is designed to "play fast"

Malzahn said last week in Starkville was a special situation, with the team playing on the road for the first time this season. The crowd noise required quarterback Cam Newton to use a silent snap count.

“I wanted to make sure our communication was good,” Malzahn said. “And the fact that we got a lead, we wanted to be smart and (do) whatever gives us the best chance to win the game.”

Several other factors contributed to the dialed-down offense. Left tackle Lee Ziemba left the game in the second quarter, leaving Newton’s blind side to be protected by Brandon Mosley, a converted junior college tight end.

Mario Fannin, who is Auburn’s best running back at picking up the blitz, left midway through the fourth quarter with a shoulder injury.

So Auburn went conservative by Malzahn’s standards, especially near the end, when it proved beneficial. Its final drive featured six runs among seven plays, eating more than four minutes before Wes Byrum had a 37-yard field goal blocked.

Please Bammer fans. Pick a side and stick with it!

Either:

A) Malzahn is an offensive genius that is carrying Chiz and the Auburn program on his back until he bolts for the first available HC job

OR

B) He's running a gimmicky offense, with gimmicky players that will NEVER work in the SEC.

It can't be both.....

Auburn will be 2-2 next Sunday. I fully expect to see the pace pick up significantly after that..I think they still finish 9-3 which is a very respectable improvement from the last few years.

You think they lose to Clemson? I just don't see it. Clemson's defense is turrible.
