Nothing yet. The popular name right now is Smart for DC, but there are a ton of names flying around. Way too early to really speculate. Some people actually think that due to Richt's friendship with Tubberville, coupled with Tubs spending a lot of time in Athens lately, that it could be him at DC. So, no, nothing worth hearing twice or really passing along yet.

No rumors at all. Just fans throwing out names of people they would like to see.

We dont really have any precedent for this under Richt, as all of his coordinators that have moved on have left voluntarily. No one from the school has really given any indication of what will happen at years' end, other than the AD saying that he will review the football team's status with Richt after the season.

I'd say that we will not hear a thing until after the bowl season.

How pissed will Georgia fans be if Richt doesn't get rid of Martinez after the season?

I read where the editor of uga rivals site (dasher?) said Kirby would never be the dc due to something like negative recruiting against uga

I can't see Tubbs taking a DC job. Now if he were to sit on the shelf a couple of years and not get a call for a head coaching gig, then maybe to keep his name in the mix as other jobs open up but I don't see him dropping back down to DC as his first option.

A scant few would support the staff no matter what.

Some would bitch and moan.

Most would spontaneously combust.

As you might expect with Richt, nothing will be announced/official until well after the bowl games. I would not be surprised to see Mark retain Bobo and Martinez. I'm sure there are better assistants out there but to be honest I also think part of our problem has been recruiting on defense and we definitely had a recruiting gap on the OL. The OL problem has been somewhat remedied but with Sturdivant out for the season two seasons in a row it's been ongoing work in progress. But our main problem has been a weak defensive backfield.

There's more to recruiting than just getting the best athletes you can; you also have to satisfy the overall needs of the team and I don't think we have recruited well in the DB up until this last class. The good news is Boykin and Rambo are looking pretty good at Safety but we definitely need better CB's. Hopefully Branden Smith will fill one of the voids but then there is still the other side of the field....

There are plenty who will have a fit but I really don't care as long as we see better results next season. We have had good defenses under Martinez but simply had better talent on defense during those early years from my point of view. Willie was the DB coach under Brian VanGorder and some suggest that CWM is a better positions coach and is over his head as a DC. To be honest I don't have enough inside info/insight to say one way or another. One thing for sure, VanGoder was a fiery kind a guy who believed in aggressive defense whereas Martinez does have a milder personality and seems to have more of bend but don't break philosophy.

IMHO I don't think UGA will be able to bring in a big name like K. Smart because there is no incentive for a big name to come in and fix the problems. If a big name dc comes in and fixes the problems that the defense has, then the head coaching job will not open up, which presumably a big name dc would want. Also, a big name dc will already have his players at his current school and a new class of players that he wants on the way. Thus, if someone comes in it will be a person currently out of coaching or a d-backs coach from a very successful team.

Dash is actually a friend of mine, I will have to check his columns. ButI have always heard there is bad blood between Smart and UGA. However, when the defense is as bad as we have been, and time has passed while his stock has risen...stuff is forgotten.

I don't know, although I'm hearing Willie is gone regardless how the end of the season turns out. It's pretty much a waiting game from here on out.
