High School coaches from Mobile and Birmingham have called this the worst looking Barn team in over 25 years.

I read an article in the Anniston Star that said the first unit O never faced the first unit D and vice versa (basically). If true, it's kind of hard to tell a whole lot about the situation.

I don't have a link, but I got a friend that coaches at Vigor, and a friend that coaches at Prattville, they went to see a Barn practice with other coaches from the state and this was the common opinion.

Sorry man, but given your prior posting history regarding Auburn, and the lack of any proof, I'm going to have to call BS.

There is an article on al.com talking about the defense was filled with reserves and walk ons. The starters mostly did not play yesterday. By the way, when was the last time AU did not field a solid defense?

The defense was pretty stout last year. The problem was the offense wasn't worth a shite and couldn't get the D a breather on the sidelines. For as bad as the record was, look at how close some of the games were, and the numbers the defense put up - they weren't that bad.

This is from the Auburn website, but it is an AP report, so very likely the one either reprinted or used as underlying info for the AL.com and Anniston Star reports.

quote:

Neil Caudle knows the big plays and points Auburn's offense put up in Saturday's spring game came with a caveat.

Caudle and fellow quarterback Kodi Burns were facing a defense that was a mix-and-match group with a number of key players out or limited with injuries.

The Tigers offense produced 70-yard runs by newcomer Onterio McCalebb and receiver Terrell Zachery on an end-around. Ben Tate only had four carries, but they produced 72 yards and touchdowns of 46 and 9 yards on his first two series. Darvin Adams had a 45-yard catch and Mario Fannin a 41-yarder.

To Caudle, it was a solid debut for offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn's no-huddle, shotgun attack.

"I know the defense is banged up and they didn't have all of their guys," said Caudle, who passed for 161 yards and two touchdowns. "But it's a big confidence-builder for us to go out there and hang up that many points on them."

That was one game, and it was against the then #1 team in the country. I admit it, Bama kicked the shite out of them - but Bama ran over just about everyone they faced all year until they got to Florida and into the bowl.

This is cherry picking I admit - #4 in scoring defense (18/game), #5 in pass defense(178.8/game), #4 in 1st downs against(17/game), #2 3rd down conversions against(28.7%) and #2 in red zone defense. The other numbers are #7 in total defense, #8 in rush defense, #11 in sacks by, #10 in 4th down conversions against.

My point is, Auburn could have won several of the games they lost if it hadn't been for an inept offense. Of the games they lost, several were close, if the defense truely sucked as was alluded to earlier, then as bad as the offense was, none of those losses should have been that close.

I know. I just wanted to make someone go through the effort of looking up some stuff to counter that post.
