He needed money for rent and mom's utilities (living expenses).

Writes to Miller.

Miller writes back and tells LT to see Barney next week

Was Miller talking about NCAA-approved Opportunity Fund for such requests?

Barney has denied that he ever gave money to LT.

What else?

Is this a violation?

How dare you ask relevant and logical questions. The only acceptable responses are:

1. We're screwed
2. We're done

The phrase that's hard to get around in that exchange is: "We agreed on an amount and that keeps changing. I don't have a mechanism for handling these kinds of requests on short notice."...or something like that. You can screw your face up and stare at that as long as you like. But in the end, it's bad.

If those texts aren't complete fakes that someone photoshopped -- and it's been 48 hours now and no one at Ole Miss is publicly saying they were -- then Barney is gone, and we are in deep shite.

Doesn't have a mechanism meaning, there is a limit of what ever funds he is using.
Aka financial aid .

Meaning there would be set numbers and he had to file paperwork to allocate funds. And if the numbers change after he had documented them. There are scenarios that work fine.

That is if they are real.
And if they are it could be for straight cash too. But could be for grant/aid as well.

If it were a violation, Freeze would have fired the wrongdoer.

It appears to me: LT asked for money, then added more to his request. Ole Miss must keep close tabs on the Opp Fund, and LT would have to sit down with Barney to itemize, and justify, why he needed money from the Opp Fund.

Miller knew there was a writing, and it would be subject to FOIA request. He's not stupid (I hope).

Good questions. The problem is all the naysayers in the wings waiting to celebrate if Ole Miss fails at anything.

These naysayers are totally convinced that the silence from Tunsil and Ole Miss is an admission of guilt when saying "nothing" is actually a very smart move. Sometimes silent is the best answer especially when arguing with professional idiots.

Could it be the parties involved do not feel ( and rightfully so) that it is ANYBODY'S business right now? Could it be that the detractors and gnashers of teeth and enemies of Ole Miss simply cannot sleep until something terrible happens at Ole Miss?
How sad that in sports and politics we must build ourselves up by tearing down others.

The truth will prevail. This debacle has all the earmarks of setting up a young man for failure on a night he clearly deserved to celebrate.

"Assistance fund:
If an exchange of money occurred only to help with rent, that could be allowed by the NCAA Student Assistance fund.

The NCAA manual says “The Student Assistance Fund is intended to provide direct benefits to student-athletes or their families as determined by conference offices.
As a guiding principal the fund shall be used to assist student-athletes in meeting financial needs that arise in conjunction with participation in intercollegiate athletics.

The NCAA cites a few clear items for which money from this fund cannot be used, but it provides a great deal of leeway for schools to make decisions on how to use the money to help athletes. It appears that rent or utilities could fall within the guidelines."

i'm not seeing that. My biggest fear is that the NCAA knows they can't prove any violations in Tunsil gate and hits us harder for the previous investigation (can they do that?) or open another investigation that won't go anywhere but keeps the NCAA cloud over our head for another year.

They have the ability to decide the punishments but there is a lot of strong precedents for what the punishment will be. If they go off the hinges compared to comparable situations with nothing to back it up expect Ole Miss not to just take it.
