Not Ole Miss but a Mississippi question: what is Proposition 42 exactly & how will voting for or against it impact our schools?

Proposition 42 gives the judicial branch power to decide what funding and curriculum should be required for local schools.
So a judge can say, x school system needs more money. Or x school should teach x subject.
People against it don't want a single judge to decide what they think should be taught in schools. And they think it could cause highee taxes (judge says school needs more money, taxpayers pay for it).
That's my understanding. But I really need to do more research before Tuesday.

Seconded. It's been needing it.
I think in the past the mods have not been too keen on team boards having OT threads because it may slow traffic to the OTL and OTB, but it's not like we talk about anything on here that isn't primarily Ole Miss related. This thread is falling into the doldrums, so a sticky would certainly help. You may want to cite the reasons when RA'ing. I'd avoid posting it on the Help Board because of the unwanted attention it might bring...
