Go back and look at carries from the QB position. Particularly those of Bo Wallace. Over the 3 year period it appeared to me that Wallace kept fewer and fewer times in the read option. His inability to beat the defensive end one on one either to the inside or outside made him very ineffective as a run threat.
The offense is zone read, if the QB is not effective beating the DE then the rushing attack as a whole will not be very effective. It requires an exceptional athlete to make the read and have enough athleticism to beat an unblocked defensive end.
With Brunetti the run game always seemed to be more effective, even in the red zone. Having a real threat to run the ball, kept defenses honest. But also like Wallace, not being an effective passer down field allows the db's to cheat up to support the run, thus making it more difficult to run in the red zone.
We need a QB that can sling it and run it. Also, never liked the fact that Bo didn't trust the receivers enough to throw at them and give them a chance down field. Maybe we wouldn't have completed the pass, but pass interference and the fear of the long ball would have helped the run game tremendously.

Well, he did have a separated shoulder in '13 and a surgically repaired shoulder in '14. Plus I don't think the coaches wanted him to run too much last year considering we didn't really have a second option.

I'd appreciate any practice updates y'all can conjure up.

The practices are closed to everyone I think so even the media is kinda in the dark. You're only going to hear a bunch of generic coach speak bullshite this spring.
