I see we are ranked 19 in coaches and 18 in AP I believe preseason. Do y'all think those are about where we should be or what? I'll take both. I think it's a pretty good spot, although I realize that those polls mean nothing.
What really pisses me off are the losers who would rather not be ranked because they are scared and think its a jinx. Put your big boy pants on and be proud that we are in this position. Had to get that off my chest

If someone would had told me two years ago that the Rebs would be #18 heading into Freeze's 3rd season, I would have in that person's face.

I agree. I know it's just a preseason poll but it says a lot for how far we've come. It can disappear just as quickly, but it's a start.

Well, no, they don't mean "nothing."

While your ranking has no bearing whatsoever on whether or not you win or lose a football game, it does have bearing on TV coverage, exposure for the program, and all that good shite.

They also had bearing in the BCS standings, but those don't exist anymore. Still, they do mean something.

I think that's about right.

I'm glad we're ranked. Free publicity for croots and such.

I think it is spot on. Finishing at that spot means we were a 8 or 9 win team. I think that is about right.

I hate people with the mindset that great things can't be done at Ole Miss. If you don't believe we could ever win a NC in today's game I'd rather they GTFO.

It's a great spot for us.

Now we will be discussed everytime they talk about the top 25 and all.

Also it shows the players the success we have had thus far. But yes we can lose it instantly. As in during week 1. Gotta win to keep it but its a good start.

Not trying to get into one of your grump contests, just saying that I don't think the polls are always accurate and hold a lot of meaning. Obviously, I am happy we are ranked and understand that they do mean something, I was just trying to allude to the fact that they will change and have no meaning usually as to how things play out. Should have worded things differently for you, brah

In truth, this ranking serves only as motivation to our opponents. We do better as hunters, not as the hunted.

There are 18 spots ahead of us, or 17. I hate that mentality.

The correct mentality to take toward those not ranked or ranked below us is, "yeah, we are ranked higher than you, let me show you why". Until then, nothing has or will change. No confidence is such a horrible thing in pretty much all things in life...

It's the truth, ya'll. Remember in 2009 when we went to SC? They shut us down. Yet in 2008, when we were viewed as a virtual off week, we beat the eventual national champions, LSU and completely crushed the MSU.

Last year, we beat the best Vanderbilt team that anyone has EVER seen, Texas (both their own houses), and the always supremacist LSU squad.

If they see us coming, it hurts our chances. We don't want them hungry. We want them lazy and complacent.

There are 6 teams between us and #11. Four of them play each other before we play bama the other two are southern cal and ND. ND plays Michigan, USC plays Stanford ,so good chance we are #14 when the Tide rolls in

Only losers want this. At some point you have to turn the corner. Stop being the hunted and take on the task of being the best hunter.

Anything can happen. We can lose a game, or two, but shouldn't. I can assure you that we have no chance of gameday or anything else of importance unless we are ranked decently. Of course, who would want to be ranked ?

Again, this is in now way a prediction thread, just trying to see if y'all think our ranking is about right or not. Lets check the superstitions at the door. Hopefully we are getting past that childish shite.

I honestly think this years team is hungrier than last years.

As hard as it is to believe, I think they got complacent last year.

You rember the fire of Denzel's speech at halftime of the first game of the season in 2012? I don't think we had that last season. I think losing the egg bowl was exactly what they needed to wake them up.

I don't think preseason hype and expectations mean shite to this team. I believe that they are still pissed off about the way they finished the regular season and that is going to be what drives them this season.
