The timing of this is interesting. Why fire him with only 3 games left?

Wasn't it originally reported as both sides agreed to "mutually part ways" at the end of the season? Maybe Kermit said why stick around and be a distraction if I can remove myself now and let the program move on?

LINK

Per source, Keith is vetting Beard extensively. Take the link for what it is though.

Well it’s either a grand slam hire or a bunt pop up back to the pitcher. Beard would get immediate energy and excitement back in the program. Dusty May would be another Kermit hire. I would rather bring Kennedy back.

Don’t frick up this hire Keith

I think if Keith Carter trust that Beard isn’t gonna have another off court issue it’s his job. The fan base would also give Beard 2 to 3 years to turn it around. Dusty May is having an insane season right now being 27-3 at FAU but hasn’t done anything noticeable before this season.

It’s literally Kermit 2.0

The womens team will have higher attendance than our men’s team next year if he is hired. No offense to them

In case anyone forgot, FAU is 27-3. One of those three losses was to us by double digits. Another was to Andy Kennedy and UAB.

If Keith can’t get on board with Beard I really don’t understand why he’s not moving in on Wade. Even with a show cause he’s a no brainer. Pearl had a show cause when he was hired by auburn and all they have done is gone from an afterthought to yearly tournament team with a final four run included.

Play the long game Keith and don’t let year 1 hold you back from bringing in a winner.

KenPom has FAU as the 24th best team in college basketball. FAU has a pretty young team and if a few of his top players follow him it’s not a bad hire. If Beard and Wade weren’t available I could get behind it. I would also think really hard about Rick Pitino before May.

Neal McCready is saying Wade is basically off the board at this point. Holtman is staying at Ohio State is sounds like. Chris Mack doesn't seem like he's ready to jump back into coaching.

At this point, it sounds like Beard or bust - if we even get comfortable with Beard. None of the realistic mid major guys excite me.

If it’s Beard I would expect significant buzz around it by the end of the week. I think it’s gonna be Dusty May and the more I look into May the more I like the hire. If May says no though I don’t know how you don’t just give the job to Beard at that point. May and Beard are the only two hires that I would be ok with.

His first 4 years at FAU were not great, so certainly won't give us a quick turnaround. It was year 4 before he even went over .500 in conference.

I have real concerns he could build a SEC caliber staff too.

If Beard has expressed interest then he should have a job offer in hand yesterday. Dusty May isn’t even a tenth of the coach he is

I go back and forth on this.

Would love to hear your reasoning - I’m sure I’m overthinking things.

He made Texas Tech into a basketball power. They went to the Elite 8 and finished runner up in the tournament under him. He had Texas rebuilt and a top 5 team in just one year until he was fired. His personal life doesn’t disqualify him for me.

Florida Atlantic has a program win percentage of .400 and only one tournament appearance in its history. They only ever one over 20 games one time before this season. If May stays at FAU next season they return most of their roster. FAU will win another 25 games next year if he stays. Beard is the only candidate that I would hire over him.

The longer this search goes on, the less likely I think it is that Beard is the coach. We could hire him now if we wanted to because he’s not coaching anywhere. But we have to wait on May and FAU to finish their season
