McCready not-so-subtlety hinted on a podcast this week that Ole Miss fans should be paying attention to Purdue games this season. I think Bjork and Brohm may have had some sort of connection from their respective time at WKU (although Brohm came in at or near the end of Bjork's tenure).

So far Purdue has looked good this year. Obviously Brohm has a great offensive mind and is a rising star in coaching ranks.

The neck spots is a bit distracting, but I think we should be excited about our next HC:

I think he would be perfect for us. Would love to dip into the Petrino coaching tree.

Love what he has done over the past few years. Would like a guy that places more emphasis on defense (we can't compete without a defense), but love his high scoring offense.

I think Brohm can be paired with a top level DC it would work well but that's not an easy task - kind of need to get lucky with an up-and-comer. Another problem is that elite DCs become HCs in the blink of an eye.

Ole Miss doesn't quite have the recruiting prowess or resources to compete for high end defensive talent in the SEC West consistently, so you need a DC who has a scheme that squeezes the most of out of the talent (plays aggressive to force turnovers etc). I would guess Brohm would be paired with a young DC with that sort of scheme.

We missed out on defensive talent in Mississippi the past few years: Chris Jones, Jeffrey Simmons, Quay, Peters, Leo, Gay, Green, Nigel, the kid from Grenada who went Louisville, Richie.

Give us just 5 of those and we would still be in top 3 of SEC.

That's definitely true. However MSU is gonna gets its share in MS regardless and it is a smaller state.

It's just tough to get high end defensive players that aren't Dlinemen. Every good LB and DB in the South is highly coveted and there's just not that many of them in our close-to-proximity player pool. And when we do actually signed a high-profile DB, they can't bust at the rate we've gotten (Deontay Anderson, CJ Hampton, etc). Hell we needed guys like Cam Ordway and Armani Linton to provide depth and we haven't even gotten that.

At what point do we look at the Coach and say these "busts" may be on you?

I sure had high hopes for Linton. What's his deal?

It's a numbers game - every team has busts. Coaching can definitely unlock some potential tho but it's a case by case basis.

Back to Brohm. Will he leave Purdue after a single season? Not many coaches do that at a P5.

The NCAA ruling still may play a big role - not sure Brohm would leave if multi year bowl ban.

Norvell or Brohm would be great gets and honestly I'd love to go after Dave Aranda as well.
