Well damn, definitely dont need Pack fumbling deep in our own half to Bama.
That's why Alford was so great at Punt returning, he was a baseball player.
He was used to gauging and fielding fly balls and timing it out. Also being a freak athlete helps.
But I might want to avoid injury against a big physical Alabama team too.. Especially if i had a MiLB contract...

Best of luck to the man, just bad timing...

Here I was thinking we were seeing less of him so that he could surprise everyone in SEC play. Oh well, I wish him the best.

Alford wasn't on scholarship, btw, according to Kellenberger on twitter.

Word is that he got tired of Freeze telling him he was gonna play QB, return punts, etc and through 4 games hadn't had the opportunity of doing much on the field.

He will be in the Majors by 2016

I am shocked that Al had an opinion on this.....I am sure from his numerous sources inside the a Ole Miss football program

I live in Petal, am good friends with his baseball coaches, and also watched him play throughout this career at Petal HS.

Unfortunately I think this is probably the cause.

How was he not splitting time with Elston? He was listed as "or" on the depth chart, right? He saw maybe a tenth of the snaps elston did.

Those guys have to work their asses off. I'm surprised more of them don't drop out, tbh.

Alford wanted more playing time, so he completely quit playing football? This seems less plausible than other potential scenarios.

I'm originally from New Albany, and my Dad grew up in Memphis. Ask me about the innermost motivations of former MLB catcher Eli Whiteside and Elvis.

From what I was told he was offered a 5 year deal at the beginning of the summer and then they recently upped the offer... Mix that in with being married with kids and hell I can't blame him

Yeah... The married with kids thing is big here.. Then they reupped his $ too !!? Why risk injury when you aren't really playing... I hope we put Elston back there... He looked explosive in the open field on that INT return on Saturday and I saw him handle punts pretty well last September when he was just a soph... We shall see.

CJ Hampton waiting in the wings was a factor here as well.
