The Shining and Scream. All the others I've seen are essentially the same.

When the first one came out, I thought it was going to be a shite movie. Ended up being very good.

I agree. I just watched it about a month ago. I was completely blown away, maybe because I watched it with really low expectations, but there are so many elements to it- you just don't see that from a slasher movie very often

Hocus Pocus and of course all the Halloween movies.

ETA: I always hated the Friday the 13th movies. Just couldn't get into those for some reason.

I would not call it a horror movie but the first Paranormal Activity movie made me a little uneasy.

Heard a synopsis of it and decided it was terrible because it changed some stuff from the book. Great horror novel, though. It got into my head a time or two.

Many people argue that Stanley Kubrick's version of The Shining was far superior to Stephen King's original story.

Watch the movie. If you think the book got into your head, just wait until you see the movie.

(Who the frick hasn't seen The Shining? Unbelievable)

Okay. Fair enough.

FWIW...you're missing out. Please don't be like BowlJackoff and tell me that the remakes of Halloween and Texas Chainsaw are "awesome". If that's the case, you shouldn't be posting in Horror Movie thread.

I'll probably watch it at some point. If anything just to see Jack Nicholson being crazy.

And I have not seen the Halloween remake, but I do like the original (and I don't like horror movies). It is classic and captures a very good horror vibe.

Did you ever?

I've seen a lot of people mention The Shining. I liked that.
Jeepers Creepers, Freddy vs Jason, and Jason X were awesome when I was in middle school. I guess movies like Saw, that are super gory are what get me the most these days

What was wrong with Rob Zombie's "Halloween" ? Little Jason was freaky as shite, and his sisters were slutty and hot and so were the baby sisters friends when she grew up.

Pretty much. Slasher movies are boring as hell.

Terrible movie. There should be a golden rule to never remake a classic horror movie. Only a few have been nearly as good as the original, but they are few and far between.

For example, the new Evil Dead was awesome and was very much a solid stand alone movie. Regardless, the original Evil Dead is a cult classic and still trumps the new version.

That's about it.

As far as Saw is concerned, the first Saw was pretty good but not great. It was good enough to spawn a spectacle of needless sequels which generally indicates that it was fairly generic.

Gore is not horror. It's just needless blood, bone breaking, and finger nail scratching on wood. Sure, that stuff is cringe inducing, but it's not horror.

IMO.

The original Texas Chainsaw is still one of the greatest horror movies of all time. No debate.

It's a work of cinematic art.
