If you make an effort to speak French, even if it's terrible, they'll treat you like a human being but they will speak back to you in English

You must have been an arrogant a-hole to them because we have experienced nothing but extremely nice and helpful people there, and everywhere else we've been in France.

This. If you act like a stereotypical trashy obnoxious American... well, they're not going to be nearly as accommodating.

Outrageous and slanderous statement Duke,

It was a question not a statement.

North Korea, or whatever country hates this "sport" as much as I do.

Why did you put sport in quotations? Are you trying to imply that soccer is not a sport?

ETA to the OP: Germany

If the implication is wrong you should be busting out the flag shirt and yelling slurs at Mexicans for the next three weeks (and hopefully longer). I will bring you into the Ameritard cult.

I think there's a 50% chance we make it out of the group. I'll give us a 35% chance of beating Belgium if we advance. I think the quarters are as far as we will go. I don't see us getting past Argentina.

I follow Arsenal, so I'll just root for their players when they appear. Cazorla probably won't get much time for Spain. Giroud is behind some frenchie I think so he probably won't either. Koscielny will start at center back for France. Wilshere is the next great young English midfielder. Oxlade-Chamberlain will probably get a lot of playing time, even if it's off the bench. Same with Podolski. No idea if Mertesacker will start for Germany. I would assume so. Ozil definitely will.

I guess I'm rooting for Germany.

IF/when the USA gets knocked out, I'll probably pull for Uruguay.
