Nerds of the rant, which one is better? Is there any difference? Best brands? The wifi in my house doesn't reach my office or bedroom very well. Looking for any insight.

Sounds like you need access points.

Check out how many gigs they have

Do you have attic space to run another cable from one end of the house to the other?
Extenders work... Kinda. Sorta. Ish.
but running CAT6 to the other side and adding an access point would be a better idea.

Ok. I wasn't sure if an extender would be a good solution or not. I think I may have two access points upstairs already. Thanks for the info.

Same issue in our house. We've lived in condos up until recently. The house that we bought... well, the wifi on the bedroom wing sucks.

My dad did an extender and it didn't work great.
Wireless is great, but any time you can get a cable closer to your location, it's a better idea.
General rule of networking.

Terrible rule of networking... look... go get a Ubiquiti UAP. They run about $65 on Amazon. You can roam from AP to AP with zero handoff. I got sick of shitty wireless in my home and started looking for cost effective corporate models. After research, the best is that UAP. I had problems for years and this fixed it. I'm gaming on them, running 3 TVs with Netflix and the XBOX. My wireless is awesome now.

This, run an Ubi setup or drop CAT6 lines if you can. You'll be disappointed in everything else you try.

Unless you have infinitely more knowledge in networking than me, STFU.
I don't care how cool a product is, wireless to wireless networking will never be more stable than wired. Ubi s a neat product, but no matter what theirs, Cisco, Extreme, or netgear's marketing says, a wire is always a better solution when it can be done.

Correct, I didn't even know that was debatable. A network 5* Cisco Blackbelt Ninja friend of a friend gave me the best advice ever when moving in to a new home, if at all possible hardware CAT6 and future proof your house before you move in. As internet speeds increase, and 4K content becomes more readily available, it will absolutely be necessary.
We spent a chunk having this done in our house, and it was worth every penny. It might be overkill for now, but technology the age of streaming is growing daily. Unfortunately we did this after we had moved in to our last house, which made for a major PITA. Do it up front and be done with it.

Exactly ... and get a new router from Wally World. Hundred bucks.
Also, mount the routers higher on the wall, makes all the difference in the world.

You need to get at the very least a banging AC router. I suggest the Nighthawk x6 or higher. WiFi extenders are complete shite. Then you need to wire up a wireless access point(WAP) from your router.
Whatever you do, do not be talked into a WiFi extender.

Trust me, I do have infinitely more knowledge and at home, there is absolutely nothing that the current wireless standards will not be suitable for. You don't need AC as most user devices are not yet up to that standard and won't be for a long time.
It's not that I disagree that wired is better, but running cables all over your house is an obsolete way of doing things.

unless you're a CCIE, i doubt it.

that, i agree with. whatever router you buy now will probably be dead by the time a TV, dvd player, phone, laptop will all probably have AC as the standard after we've moved 2 revisions down the road.
