Teddy was the best President.

This motherfricker gets more credit than he deserves by FAR. He set the seeds for WW2 by tacitly approving Japanese annexation of Korea and his monroe doctrine ideas encouraged the japanese to set up the East Asia Coprosperity sphere which allowed them to imperialistically expand throughout asia.

Further, his placement of William Howard taft as governor of the philippines created more attrocities under american government than ever before or since. fricking Waterboarding was common and thousands of Filipinos died.

His fame as a western cowboy other than owning a ranch out west, was his cowboy outfit portraits, most of which were taken in NYC.

Dude was a MAJOR proponent of Aryan race ideas. Most of which were taught to him by his father and again at Harvard, where this was a common belief in the late 1800's and early 1900's.

He did some good stuff, but set this country up to get frickED later, causing millions of deaths through the war in the pacific.

He also gets credit for helping negotiate the Russo- Japanese war settlement, but he came in late to those discussions, many issues having already been decided.

TR gets Hero credit, when its largely undeserved.

Well, he only really wanted to do one thing but it was a pretty big one thing so I'd say Abraham Lincoln has to be pretty high on the list.

Washington too for the example he set for future presidents. At the absolute height of his popularity after two terms he just walked away from the power and went home.

Translation: There was a lot of resistance to our presence in the Philipines. In a very short time (and with some ALL LOGIC AND NO EMOTION tactics, to put it mildly) we put an end to that shite in famously short order. Haven't had a significant prob out of them in over 100 years!

(Not to mention that they'd all be dead by now, anyway).

When you talk about who made a worthwhile change that shaped our society, you have to go with FDR or Lincoln.

I was just thinking though, think about all the stuff Presidents got away with pre-social media and tv coverage.

Probably a reason why they got more shite done.
