=IF(test/condition, value if true, value if false)
So say you have a column A with a bunch of values, posts if you will. You want to say that posters with more than 10,000 posts have no life, those under have a life.
B1 would be =IF(A1>10000, "Has no life", "Has a life")

Our sheets show an IF function to produce a uniform material cost per pound of differing material types. Always stumped me, but that's why I'm not in estimating.

I posted a really simple IF example, you can stack and add shite to make them more complicated. I've had formulas that were +100 characters and were needlessly complicated, the excel equivalent of jerry rigging shite and when it came time to explain it to my replacement I had completely lost myself.
My top three days in excel:
1. When I learned how to write/record macros
2. When I learned how to create pivot tables
3. When I learned how to use formulas
I went from barely being able to keep up with my work to getting my stuff done in under an hour or two each day. Excel is the shite if you can make it work for you. There are classes and stuff...wish I had gone to them. Google taught me everything but it took a long arse time because am idiot.

Yeah the ones I'm talking about are showing 20+ different price per pound materials and the equation is long and drawn out. Your simple explanation actually helped me grasp it though.

Also, LSUROCKS has a lot more posts than appears by his username. Chicken reset his and it hardly goes up anymore, IIRC. He probably has second most behind SlowFlowPro.
