I don't have much experience but Stephen King is my favorite. I've read a lot of his books

King can write. The Body (what Stand By Me is based on) and Rita Hayworth & the Shawshank Redemption are excellent short stories.

His non-fiction book on the horror genre, Danse Macabre, is worth reading, too.

Stand By Me

One of my favorite movies; almost painful to watch because of how much I miss my friendships at age 12

Quick reads and you are right. He has the build up going and then you are usually left with the wtf just happened. Like he just gets tired and decides to end it.

I get that it's Grisham, and I shouldn't be upset, but in the Partner (I think it was the Partner anyways), when with minimal lead up he just has the chick take the money and run on the last page, it ticked me off. I almost burned the book.

It's like his publisher gives him a page number and he writes and writes and then he says "oh frick, I'm at 250, let's wrap this up".
