I think the examples that can be used to start are Heath Ledger and Aaliyah.

Aaliyah was about to become a mega star in 2 different areas movies and music.

Ledger was about to become a guy that was going to be involved in major roles like Leonardo DiCaprio.

What are some others?

Saw a documentary about the Allman Bros. last night.

Duane Allman died when he was like 24 or something, and the band, and especially his guitar work, had just started to gain some notoriety.

I'm not sure Lisa Lopes was not on downward spiral.

She had burned down Rison's home and quit TLC before the wreck in Central America. I thought about her while doing OP.

How old was he? I mean he'd gone off the deep end after Taxi for sure and was going to become major star for certain.

Ronnie Van Zant was 29. He might have been at his peak though.

I would say Jimi Hendrix, 2Pac and Biggie were mega stars but that they still died way too early and could have done a lot more awesome stuff
