Damn, why you so mad son? Was it your dead pappy I cut off?

What if two funeral processions meet on the road?

Mad? Just an observation of what I consider disrespectful behavior from a person that lives in a trashy city. Don't assume you're important enough to alter my mood. I know there are a lot of people like you - I accept that being courteous will never happen for some.

I understand the tradition, but I would only adhere to it on a 2 lane

Im courteous as balls. Pulling over for a funeral procession is a just thing that rednecks do.

Depends on where I'm at....if it's in a 2 or 3 lane road, no.

On a highway, no. I don't think it would be showing my respect to get slammed into by a dump truck.
All other times, yes.
Last time this happened I was on my bicycle on the Natchez Trace and saw an approaching long line of cars all with headlights on, so I pulled over and took off my helmet. About 20 cars in I noticed that everybody seemed to be having a grand old time, laughing and cutting up. I finally realized it was a classic car get-together. D'oh!

I do and everyone in the south that I know and have seen does it...next time you see one stop and turn on their lights you'll be a better person for it.
It's about respect, taught by good people who feel a higher sense of community and respect for those who have lost a loved one. Too often curteous behavior is forgotten or not taught in the home and it just adds to the difficulties of the world.
BTW if you don't know it doesn't mean you have to disrespect those that do. Its just part of what makes up a civilized society.
Now press on young grass hopper and share what you've learned.

It's probably because they've been crying for three days straight and finally feel like they are getting some relief from the grind that visitations and funerals have. I always feel a little relieved during that time. Impossible to know without hearing what they're laughing about. Just my experience.

Just read the next sentence in his post and it tells you.

It's a respectable thing most Southerners do.

Nah, not this time. Most of the cars were convertibles and all of them pre-1960. Fooled me real good, they did.

Of all the sentences that I could have read, that would have been an important one.
