It certainly wasn't for his playing ability in the NFL. Why else do you think he got the pub?

The Broncos were 1–4 before he became the starter, but began winning with him on the field, often coming from behind late in the fourth quarter, until they won their first AFC West title and first playoff game since 2005, defeating the Pittsburgh Steelers in overtime.[3] Tebow was traded to the New York Jets during the offseason after the Broncos acquired free agent quarterback Peyton Manning.[4]

Tebow's first career victory came in his second start on December 26. The Broncos defeated the Houston Texans, 24–23, in Denver. Tebow helped rally the Broncos from a 17–0 deficit at halftime, as he finished the game with 308 passing yards and one touchdown pass. He also added a fourth quarter rushing touchdown, which capped the comeback.[105]

Now, being a Gator fan I'm not being bias when I say: No one gave him a chance in the NFL, it's silly to say that he didn't do well when he came back and won several games (that were specifically attributed to him playing well in the final minutes) and got his team to the playoffs when it was -certain- that Orton wasn't going to do it.

Not saying he's good, but he NEVER got a fair shake and he was a GREAT player in college, whether you like him or not.

And I'm an Atheist but think that in general there was a lot of grumbling over Tebow before he even took the field, some of my friends disliked him for being as "Christian" as he was but I didn't really care; I always thought he was a good kid and still think he is.

Some truth to it, but a little over the top, as most political editorial cartoons are.

Clearly this is hyperbolic, I completely agree.

But they do make martyred heroes out of homosexuals that I personally find a little distracting.

And not in the good way, snap snap.

Yah it's neither.
And if you reversed the responses the cartoon would be just as true or false. Everybody gonna be pissed depending on which one they are for/against.

I'd be happy if they both kept it to themselves, and the cartoonist too.

As am I. Surely you're not naive to think his Christian faith didn't get him additional pub?

The intensity of the pub was due to the hardcore zealot fan base that coalesced around him. He was their champion and the media ran it with. And I have no problem with it.

If black folks become golf fans due to Tiger Woods, why not Christians around Tim Tebow?

As I said earlier, I don't disapprove either. It's to each his own. But I'm not going to pretend like it's not hypocritical to call out one without recognizing the other.

By juxtaposing Christianity with homosexuality in the cartoon, the author is insinuating an indirect relationship between the two. If you're a Christian then you can't be gay; if you're gay then you're sinning against God.

I'll laugh my arse off at all "Christian" bigots when Tebow finally comes out of the closet. If the man is still obeying his religious indoctrinations and is, in fact, still a virgin then he has the bluest balls in all of football.

I like Tebow, but I do think he may very well be a closeted homosexual.

Nope. I just love to laugh at people who hide behind theism, no matter which religion.

I do, too. I think he was one of the most awesome college football players of all time.

I feel sorry for him in a way. His parenting was so religiously rigid and I'm sure he was constantly reminded of the "miracle" of his deliverance from the precipice of abortion.

I think he may have his homosexuality so deeply buried that it will be devastating for him when it emerges. He seems to have built his life around religion and football, with the latter being his substitute for sex.

He's already failed (only by his own standards, I'm sure) in his NFL career. If he doesn't do well as a commentator for the SECN, the dam holding back his emotions may burst. I fear the worst for him if he doesn't have a good base of emotional support.

It would be cool if you actually knew better but since you don't, you're an a-hole of the same clothe as those that you patronize.

Well, thank you for your considered assessment. I've been on the Rant long enough to know that the vast majority of posters, including you, tend to lay out their opinions. I'm thrilled to get my very first "a-hole" label from one of the finest of the Rant. Thank you very much. I have arrived!

Saying that Tebow is a closeted Homosexual isn't necessarily a bad thing, just that it's a dangerous premise in this society. Anyone who thinks that "homosexuality" in general is a pejorative is just too fargone.

There's nothing wrong, however, with acknowledging that he's clearly not developed the way he's supposed to if he's still a virgin after this long of time it can easily be inferred that something has gone awry.

Like I said, if he's gay or not, Christian or not, he's, to me, a good man. I've never seen him say something aggressive or mean-spirited and he's always been a sportsman.

There's little else you can ask of an athlete.

That's why I have sympathy for him. There are so many kids in the U. S., especially the South, who are raised in religiously rigid homes where they are taught that they must obey a strict moral code or burn in hell for all eternity. Many of them wind up committing suicide because they can't reconcile their learned lives with whom they are inside.

Speculation is rampant about Tebow, just as it is about most public personalities. It's sad that anyone, especially someone who has his natural talents has to subjugate his natural feelings.

I was actually raised in very similar circumstances but my mother wasn't the fire and brimstone type. She knows I don't believe know and she doesn't say anything about hell -- in fact she takes the Asimov approach and doesn't actually believe it exists.

That aside, I had thought he was a -long- time ago. Not specifically because of his religiosity, but if you play game theory there's a damn good chance.

I think it'll be a late-life admission, but I do believe one is coming.

It doesn't take any balls to say that you're Christian. Quite the opposite for a professional athlete to say he's gay.
