re: What's the most racist thing you've ever witnessed in real life?

Growing up the small town racism was unchecked. I have to admit to saying some very racist shite growing up. My whole extended family was that way. That is, until our family gained multiple grand kids with dark skin. It's amazing how quick that mindset shifts.

I know someone who rents out houses in an middle-class neighborhood & whenever blacks act interested in renting a home in the neighborhood he tells them it's like 3,000 a month so they wont rent it but he really only charges white people 1,700 monthly. He figures out ways to keep blacks out of that neighborhood.

I tried to explain to an African American woman in a parking garage how she needs to turn her lights on so that she can be seen the mirrors coming around turns by cars coming the other way. She responded with "I don't have to turn nothin on for no white motherfrickin craker"

I then said "You see that attitude right there? That's why you're poor and drive a van"

She got out of her van and punched me in the face, and said "say something else white boy"

I didn't appreciate her responding to my attempt at helping her to understand proper diving etiquette in a garage with racial comments and assault.

Lucky she only punched you in the face, if she had whipped off her shoe, you would be dead.

I've heard similar stories in the AISA which is arguably the largest group of alternative to public schools in Alabama.

All now have open enrollment - you got the cash? Welcome!
But it seems if certain schools have a poor sports year, invariably, the next year they have a lot of new, minority players. Especially in football and BKBall.

At a wedding in Jackson, MS I heard a grandmother aged woman say to her husband outside the bathrooms "I wish we still had white and colored restrooms, they just seemed cleaner"


The husband was silent. She had to have been 80 though, so I chalked it up to being batshit crazy/dementia/alzheimers.

My dog is a black lab … and he gets spooked by black people. He's racist against his own people, how fricked up is that.

2001.

I was driving across the American southwest on I-40 moving myself back to Missouri from San Diego. I crossed the New Mexico/Texas border. Soon after I entered Texas, I began to feel tired so I thought I would stop at a Waffle house in Amarillo for some neverending coffee and food.

It was late evening.

I sat at the bar, ordered my coffee, and began to doodle in a notebook to pass time. Not long after I placed my order, an attractive black guy and his extremely attractive white girlfriend came in and sat down next to me. They noticed me drawing which prompted them to start conversation with me. They were wonderfully nice and very social people.

In the back corner of the restaurant was a table of four faux neo-nazis dressed from head to toe in nazi uniforms. The moment the black guy and white girl came into the restaurant, that particular table started to use the N-word louder and louder to attempt to get a rise from the black guy.

I felt bad for the black guy and at one point I said, "Man, I'm sorry that you have to put up with that. Unbelievable."

He and his girlfriend laughed and he said, "Don't worry about it. They're a bunch of punks. It doesn't bother me at all."

His girlfriend said, "They would be stupid to start shite with my boyfriend. He's a Marine and would kick the shite outta them."

We kept chatting about San Diego, Missouri, Texeas and about everything else under the sun while the neo-nazi table continued to say the N-word over and over. To be honest, it was incredibly awkward, embarrassing, and rather distracting.

I felt like I was in the Twilight Zone. I'd never witnessed an act of blatant racism like what I was experiencing at a random Waffle House in Amarillo, Texas.

Suddenly, the biggest neo-nazi rose from his table and began to walk toward us. I thought he was going to the restroom. However, he stopped right behind the black guy and slammed his hand on the bar and looked him right in the eye and said, "fricking n*****s with white whores make me sick."

The black guy stood up, took off his dress coat and calmly handed it to his girlfriend. He looked at me and calmly said, "If you don't mind, stay here with my girl. This will only take a second."

She smiled and said, "He's going to kick the shite outta them. This will be fast."

The rest of the neo-nazies stood up and ran to the front door to fight with their buddy.

However, at that moment another table of four white men on the other end of the restaurant stood up and began walking toward the front door as well. Each one of them was wearing a gray Marines t-shirt.

They all walked outside and the moment they hit the parking lot, the black guy and the white Marines destroyed the neo-nazies in about 10 seconds flat. The black guy knocked out the largest neo-nazi's front teeth. Literally. I mean, his front teeth were on the parking lot.

The black guy and the white Marines calmly walked back into the Waffle House. They paid their tab and left before the cops arrived.

Before they left, the black guy and white girlfriend offered me their place to stay for the night because they knew from our conversation that I planned to sleep in my car in the Waffle House parking lot.

They gave me directions to their place. I waited a few hours because I knew they were on a date. Around midnight I left Waffle House and drove to their place. I ended up sleeping on their couch.

I left the next morning and arrived in SW Missouri the next evening.

That was one of the strangest nights I've ever experienced.

ETA: The cops did in fact arrive not long after the Marines left. They asked normal questions about the incident. Not one person in that Waffle House gave any useful information about the Marines and the black guy to the cops. Clearly everyone was protecting the Marines from punishment.

One cop remarked as he was walking out of the restaurant, "Those punks deserved an asswhoopin'. I wouldn't feel an ounce of remorse if they simply disappeared one day," and then he left.

I was like, "Oh shite...are the cops going to kill those neo-nazis?"
