It was a breeze. They asked me a few questions, I answered them all honestly but with an expression on my face that indicated I was clearly lying, and I got out of jury duty.

Probably, but I have a mortgage. I don't want to spend a month earning less than minimum wage.

Most murder trials don't take anywhere close to a month. Quite a few don't even take a week.

Your typical murder really isn't a terribly complicated crime.

The trials that go long are the white collar ones where there are lots and lots of records to be explained. Nothing says fun* like sitting for days while a witness pours over such exciting things as network traffic log files.

*fun, if you're into the whole bored to tears thing

I take sage advice from my grandfather

Court is intended to be a place for reason and rationale to hold sway, yet if you have not yet settled prior to court, chances are at least 1 or both parties are neither reasonable or rational.

Probate Court:

Nice new building with friendly, proficient staff. I completed necessary paper work visited county jail for finger printing, all this inside 1.5 hours.

Just have to wait three weeks for the permit.

My last visit was great... going for early termination of my DUI probation. I was highly discouraged by the full blown mentally handicapped 18 year old appearing in criminal court though. I was pretty embarrassed for the state pursuing misdemeanor charges against someone of that ilk.
