Yup, yup, and yup. And the latter just went up again locally, dammit.

Jesus, I want that Chevy behind the coke machine!

I remember those, too. There are actually a couple of stores I go to that have the slide out type of machines like the one in the picture I posted but they are not coin operated now--just an ice box to keep the glass bottles cold.

My Dad had several service stations, at his main 2 locations, there were Pepsi Machines that dispensed cans, that were in the brief period before somebody invented pull tabs.
You bought The drink, then you put it a slot in the machine, and it would punch holes so you could drink it..
I would bet that those machines are rare.

5 cents. 6.5oz bottle of coke when it was really coke. Now it's just sugared water.
ETA: If you returned them, you could get a penny for them.

I miss the old pull tabs. You could break the ring off and use the oblong part as a spring and shoot the rings. Sometimes youd have competitions to see who couldmake theirs fly the farthest.

The down side was you might cut your heel on one and have to cruise on back home.

.15 at our family store but it was cheap for its time. We also had the little cokes- pony like I suppose.
Every Friday my dad would bring home a one liter (I think it was) glass bottle of it. Awesome times.

As of now I buy the cases of Mexican Cokes at Home Depot. They're good. Only drawback is I have to house the empty bottles until I accumulate enough to make a glass recycling run.

Young'un here. What's a real coke? Like what changed? What did they used to taste like?

Originally Coke had a little cocaine in it and I have no idea what it tasted like. LINK But in recent history it was regular Coke (without cocaine) until the 1980's when a new Coke was introduced that was supposed to be better according to taste tests. LINK The problem is it wasn't and the new Coke was basically a bust. For awhile they brought the old Coke back marketed as Coke Classic and the new Coke and you could purchase either variety. The new Coke went by the wayside rather quickly as I recall and the regular old Coke or Coke Classic is what we still have.
Internationally in modern times there are different sweeteners used in Coke prompting a debate as to whether Coke sweetened with cane sugar is better than Coke that isn't. The company denies that there is any discernible difference in the tastes but opinions vary. LINK
I think the Mexican Cokes taste better but I think generally soft drinks taste better in glass bottles.

Lowest I paid for gas was 93¢. I remember bitching when it jumped to $1.20 a year later. I wanna go slap that person.

When I was a kid... that is to say when dinosaurs roamed the Earth... the average was about 30¢. But the fun part was gas wars, which will never happen again. All stations back then were full service with a garage and a couple of mechanics. To lure customers in, they lowered the gas price below what they were paying. Joe saw Tom doing that and lowered his prices, then Harry got in on the action, which prompted Tom to lower the prices more, and so on. Two or three times a year you could count on gas going for 13¢/gallon.
ETA: Imagine if today you found a couple of stations selling it for $1/gallon. That's pretty much the scenario I'm talking about.

I would give them a fat sloppy kiss. I was thrilled at 3.39 for midgrade yesterday somewhere in Meridian

I paid 35 Vietnamese Piaster for one in 1970. The exchange rate was 410 Piaster to the Dollar, so 35 was pretty cheap

Used to get a Double Cola for free every day in the summer. My father had a farm and he had a Double Cola machine there for his hands and I knew where he kept the key.

Don't really remember what the cheapest price of coke was, but used to love a cold gas station coke and a pack of pnutz.
Gas was 1.09 when I got my license to drive, 1998 or so.

I remember my grandad bitching about paying 32 cents a gallon for gas at the gulf station near his house around 1970
