There is literally not a single Republican candidate that can defeat her. That's why they're considering retreads like Romney. They already know the next two elections (and probably more) are lost. Hence the focus on controlling Congress. It's the only way for Republicans to stay relevant at the moment. Republicans have an uphill battle to climb when it comes to national elections. But I'm sure if they keep hammering on issues like abortion, gay marriage, and immigration, they will get back to the Presidency

And the states. Many of the social issues are being fought at the state level, especially abortion.
