pour absinthe in glass put sugar on spoon light spoon and sugar on fire immediately mix-stir into absinthe and shoot. This is how we did it in europe.

Sugar cubes. Get a slotted sugar spoon and put a couple of cubes of sugar on it and pour your absinthe over the sugar and into your cup. It will still be strong as frick but a heck of a lot easier to drink.

Don't listen to the sugar cube activists...the only proper way to drink absinthe is in a Sazerac.

3 oz gin, 1 oz absinthe, 1/2 oz of Lillet Blanc, and a slice of lemon peel.

Besides this one, a good drink if you like Gin is a corpse reviver no. 2. I've used the following for a few years, its amazing:
1 oz Gin (Beefmaster if you're going cheap, Blue Saph if you aren't)
1 oz Contreau
1 oz lillet blanc
1/2 oz Lemon juice
1/2 oz simple syrup
Mix all ingredients together, shake (or stir if you don't want to bruise the gin).
Do an absinthe wash of a martini glass, or pour up to a 1/4 oz in if you are so inclined
Pour into glass
drink and repeat :)

I also was very disappointed with my experiences with absynthe. It was just ok and wasn't all it was cracked up to be.
