We should really avoid grain products. Bread, pasta, etc. There are all kinds of nasty shite in those (gluten, lectins) that we should be avoiding, but we don't. I challenge anyone here to do a strict Paleo diet for 30 days. If you don't drop 10 lbs., minimum, I'll kiss your arse. It's THAT good.

Sadly I couldn't cut it out all together. When I have a bad colitis flare about all I can eat is egg noodles/pasta, unseasoned chicken, and basmati rice.

Well, as far as "substances" go, I avoid tobacco.

I also try to eat a less-than-average amount of meat and dairy for weight reasons.

True. I did paleo a couple years back and dropped 30 lbs in a couple of months.

I am gluten-free. I thought everybody was at this point.

Rice is about the only grain I eat.

LOLNOPE

Even if I did cut back on breads, I'd still drink beer.

I've been gluten free for over 5 years. Its second nature to me now.

Beer was the biggest loss, but I've adopted ciders and vodka. Most gluten-free beers taste like shite.

I know they do. I'd much rather have a cider than a gluten free beer.

I homebrew, so I've got barley by the sackful in my house. Going gluten free at this point would be pretty tough.

Five years ago there were only two restaurant/bars I knew of in Fayetteville to get served cider. Now its everywhere. Pretty easy. Between Woodchuck, Strongbow, Crispin and Ace, its covered everywhere. Lots of restaurants have gluten-free buns, or gluten-free menus now, and back then there were maybe two places here.

I've thought several times about trying to homebrew cider, but I'm confident I'd probably just make vinegar.

I know some homebrewers who make ciders. They say it's very easy. I've never done it, but I don't imagine it's any more difficult than beer brewing (which is very easy - just equipment intensive).

I don't preach gluten-free to anybody IRL. Hell, I left it out of my OP because I barely think about it anymore.

On the other hand, I see people all the time with psoriasis, early arthritis, and metabolic syndrome who would never consider going gluten-free because it would "negatively impact their quality of life".

Its not for everybody, but there are a lot of people suffering with conditions that would be greatly improved or eliminated by eating consciously, and avoiding inflammatory foods.
