I guess the reason for buying it says more than the label. I'm kind of a functionalist and can find quality stuff for less than Patagonia, but their products aren't shabby.

I buy it (along with Northface, Outdoor Research & Danner) because they were making good quality stuff when no one else was. As long as a label wasn't visiable you could wear it under your utility uniform. It has nothing to do with a fad but everything to do with being loyal to the brands that took care of me when no one else was making the stuff I needed.

It's certainly not "trendy" as its been around forever. We always called it Patagucci as well, but I swear by some of their products. Their various capilene base layers are amazing for a variety of conditions.

As for outerwear, I usually pick up whatever is on sale from Mountain Hardwear, Arc Teryx, Marmot, or any other interchangeable outdoor brand.

I liked the colors/design of the hat, it was on sale, and it fit my big ole noggin.

Yeah, I've been wearing it for 15 years or so.

It's not. But it's become "trendier" in that it's a product that's being worn by a larger range of people for superficial purposes versus functional.

I find the older I get, the less of a frick I give about wearing what's "in" and more so about what's comfortable and lasts.

That some one you know went to the Southern tip of the Americas, and brought you back a pretty solid quality wearable gift??

Funny how people judge people for following trends. I'm sure all on here do something that can fall in this same category. Like what's it say if someone has a tattoo? Let me guess it's a tribute to never forget...??

Something doesn't have to be brand new to be trendy?

I'm saying it's been "in" since I was in college in the 90s when we called it PataGucci. Usually a fashion "trend" is short lived like Uggs.

Patagonia baseball/trucker hats are embarrassing. They shouldn't be worn. The t-shirts with the big logos are in the same category of awful.

But many of these comments -- I'm a functional person, I don't buy into looks or high priced stuff -- is hilarious.

Patagonia makes high quality and highly functional jackets and other clothing/gear that usually last a long time.

As this form of capitalism fails us, we're seeing things on sale off-and-on all year, and often ridiculously lowered in price.

Just bc someone is in Patagonia doesn't mean they paid a high price and it doesn't say anything about their lack of functionality.

Part of the reason you're seeing it more now is the fact it's more accessible and affordable. You don't have to go to the local outdoor shop, you can easily find it online and often at a reduced price -- and there's a stronger stigma against North Face, so people often side with Patagonia.

My Patagonia shoes are the best pair of shoes I've ever owned. I've had them since mid-2013, and they are still holding up. Unfortunately they stopped making them, so I will probably wear them until there are literal holes in them.

Patagonia - NorthFace for white people.

I'm wearing a fleece right now because its fricking cold. I have some shells of various thickness/warmth, depending on if I am going to be outside hunting or hiking or whatever.

I don't buy the vests. I've never understood the whole fratdad vest thing. A very awkward look, in my opinion.

I worked with a guy who wore a Patagonia t-shirt. He was a pothead. So I guess it says you're a pothead.
