Yes I know this isn't the computer help board but wondered what you regulars here on the OT use.
I use a 2014 MacBook Air 4GB and the shitters full I'm tired of fighting memory.

I was told by Geek Squad Big Sur is the last operating system I can update to because its so old.
I have to buy another computer.
Not a Mac fan but they are pretty bulletproof from viruses.

Stick with Mac if you know it. And they obviously last a while. Look at the newer M1 or M2 MacBook Pros if you need portability.

I run my office on nothing but Macs and have for well over a decade. Personally, I use a 2018 MacBook Pro, 2020 MacBook Pro, iPad Pro 4th gen. 12.9”, and we use several iterations of iMacs around the office. I think the oldest one still going is a 2014 model. I have an older Apple TV plugged into the video set up in our conference room and it is seamless to use with the Macs when I need to do presentations. Macs just can’t be beat for utility and longevity.

Had an HP but they only last me 3 years. Dell last me 3-5 yrs. and got 9 out of this one.

Buy once, cry once.

Also, look at used. I’ll post a place where I’ve successfully bought from before when I can find it. And buy as much onboard memory as you can afford.

Here it is: ipowerresale

Email them and they are very responsive. They get new inventory in all of the time and if you don’t see what you want on their website they will usually let you know if one’s coming.

seriously, I’m with DSJ. Mac’s are more but worth every dime. I’m whittled down to nothing but Ipad and Iphone now. Haven’t seen a Windows screen since ‘95.

Thanks for the advice you helped convince me to stay the course with Mac.

I'm definitely going to buy the latest with the most memory I can get with a 13 inch screen. I like this size.

You are right the Macs are Solid.

I went to the 13” MacBook Pro as my primary last year (from years with 27” iMacs) and bought some relatively cheap docks for home and office, then found deals on 20” and 24” HP displays. I couldn’t be happier… for right now.

Give it a couple years and I’ll probably have three 27” iMacs running side by side by side.

Thanks for the link. I'm checking them out.

I plan on getting the latest computer released so I can get more updates out of it instead of buying one they will only support for a few more years.

If you want something you can just turn on and use without any fuss and that's dependable, go with the Mac. As you say, they are good about not getting viruses. If you're looking for something that you will want to customize and/or upgrade, go with an HP or Dell laptop with Windows.

It really depends on what you're looking to do with it. If you're just going to be looking at the internet and checking email and you don't have much of a computer background, Apple is the way to go.

I fainted when I read his comment because he and I have been round-and-round about Android vs. iOS on several threads (he being an Android fanboi).

All through college had to hear this

Professor: you need to login to this site to do your assignment. Be sure to submit it properly and of course save it as a word document.

*Hand in front row shoots up in the air*

Professor: yes?

Pic below begins to speak

The world runs on windows. My video card that I haven't used in forever will eat your fruit computer for dinner, just as soon as it finishes all 80 updates from Microsoft

Seriously though, I do prefer windows. Mac has always seemed like just an extra hoop to deal with when trying to use my computer for anything other than an art project or basic things so I stick with windows. Plus the programs I have to use for work, I don't think they have a version for mac

Word has been around for Mac since 1985. It has been cross compatible with Windows for at least 15 years. How old are you, pawpaw?

Indeed. I would never, EVER own an Apple device because I like to tinker and customize and upgrade. It's you people that just want to turn it on and have it work. White people, I swear.

Exactly.

I actually use all of the above. Older Android (rooted) phone, newer iOS phone, updated Windows PC, older MacBook.

Each has its place depending on what you're doing, IMO.
