I've heard of it. But only in urban legends. I have a lot of urban legend Delta stories like that but I never know if they've been embellished or if they are real.

Webster's isn't bad. But the places to eat in Greenwood are Crystal Grill, Giardina's, and Lusco's.

This. I always think of Websters as the FloraBama of Greenwood. Without the beach and all of the other fun stuff, but with the same odd cross section of people.

Most of the ones I've heard before and decided to check out turned out to be pretty real.

Only one that was BS was the legend about Robert Johnson's grave.

Don't go to Gates of Hell in Satartia, fwiw. frick that place. Mount Holly on lake Washington also

The only reason that one didn't sound real to me is because if it's plantation owners that had people who died, they are so remote and had so many places to put them, it just seemed like they would do that instead of going to some other place everyone supposedly goes to.

I know of a few of the stories that I thought were embellished and they were true. Some though I have heard and then asked about them years later, and people look at me like I am on crack. The thing is, I know I heard them somewhere, and they aren't that different from the true ones.

Well supposedly of course that is how the place got the name "Democrat" bottoms. I found it on Google maps..it is east of Democrat lake..swamp south of a catfish farm and you clearly see the area where everything is dead so it looks legit so far.

Ok now I'm intrigued

OHHHH.... I didn't think of that. I assumed the name came before the place, not because of the place.

I bet people at Webster's will know if it's true.

No, the Downtown Grill closed a while back and Boure remodeled the building and moved there.

I've never heard of it but I'll ask around. I'm intrigued as well. May have to check it out.

They are pretty fascinating.

What's bad about this one is the "events" that supposedly happened at this location isn't something that happened in the 1800s, but more like in the past 40 years.

My dad has almost certainly heard about it. He grew up in Belzoni so I'm sure he knows something about it. I'll give him a call and report back to you.

They make the BEST conversation starters at parties. Especially when you tell them to people who aren't from there. It's also fun to compare stories with people from there and figure out who's heard what.

Ewww. I haven't heard of people doing it recently. I thought people did it back in the Emmett Till days if they did it.

I know of a catfish farmer from Belzoni that did it as early as 10 years ago. Shot his night worker for falling asleep on the job..he had so much money he got out of it bc he paid off the local PD.

It is said he has over 10 bodies buried in those old pond levees. That is the last such incident that I know of. I sort of remember people talking about the trial I think it was back around 2001

Oh gosh. I haven't heard of that. That's absolutely dreadful. I think the lady who worked on my best friend's place and helped take care of the children was beaten up by her husband and ended up shooting him. She went to the house the next morning and told everyone what she did, and they decided that since he was such an a-hole, they'd just bury him and avoid the police.

I don't think she took care of the children after that. She was demoted to housework.
