he may be forced to trade and that is fine, but I want him to take a piece of the NBA down with him.

If a team's owner does not have his team at a game, that is grounds for having their team sold. It is one of the few actionable reasons in their agreement with the NBA.

Not at all. There is a very distinct, physical difference in which one is allowed and one is not.

The player's code of conduct is far more restrictive than anything in the owner's agreement with the NBA. Billionaires don't like to be told what to do even more than millionaires.

Sterling strikes me as a man who literally hates everyone that has less than a billion in the bank. I don't think he is as racist as is he is just a grouchy old bag of dicks.

That said, he could call a team meeting and offer up a little more money to each player for another year on the team and all of them would sign the contract today. There are only so many places to go play and the other places can't afford to pay the same and the players won't take a pay cut for their cause.

What about GM's and office guys? Larry Johnson said remarks way worse than Sterling and did it publicly as the GM for NY Knicks. It seems like a discrimination lawsuit could be in the works. It isn't hard to paint the picture Sterling is being attacked for being white because other precedents show the NBA doesn't care if you are black and prejudiced. They let that go. But if you are white and prejudiced, watch out.

The NBA hates the guy and have looked for a reason to get rid of him for years. he has been a pain in their arse and blight to their "image" and this is their chance. The biggest problem that they have going for them is that they have let so much shite slide through the years that now that they put their foot down on him he is able to break it off and shove it up their arse.

I wouldn't be shocked to see him sell the team for a big chunk of money now that they aren't in the gutter anymore and are the "cool indie" team in LA but I also see Sterling dropping a ton of cash raking the NBA over the coals and walking away with a settlement from them for another 500 mil or so just to make him go away.

The truth is that the NBA isn't a right, it is an exclusive club of owners and if they don't want you there then they should be able to tell you to frick off. Because you own a team doesn't mean that the owners should have to let you play with them.

I agree, I don't think he is too worried about the money or really cares about losing the clippers. He is an old bastard who has made a ton of money and probably can't spend what he already has.

However, he would enjoy the hell out of a long court battle and giving a big frick you to everyone on his way out.

Maybe so but that literally has nothing to do with it.

The NBA isn't on the strongest legal footing here. They're arguing Sterling broke his contract by his speech and it's not at all clear in his agreement with the league that it's possible for them to make him sell for anything he says. If they can make him sell for this reason, they can make any owner sell for really any reason they want. Most billionaires don't want to make that sort of investment with those risks. And Mark Cuban's statements are probably privately echoed by many of the other owners. And none of them want to be seen defending Sterling so they'll let the courts decide.

You're right which is Sterling's argument. How can the NBA hold him to a standard and not others. It's the "I can't fly a flag but you can" HOA argument. If the NBA pursues this it will force them to change their own league laws.

I personally thought that was a perfectly lucid argument. There -is- a lot of language used by the players that are just as racist as what he said.

Probably the most sensible thing said on here in quite some time.
