I got engaged over the weekend, and my fiancé wants to start planning everything. The wedding will be in December, and I'm trying to think of good honeymoon destinations in the US in the winter time. Any suggestions? We were thinking New England, but it may be ridiculously cold.

Marriage is a great institution. As long as you don't mind being institutionalized.

We went to Alaska (she and I had traveled a lot and didn't want to do the Hawaii/carribean/Mexico resort thing). One of the best trips I've ever taken and I'd do it again no questions asked if I could. Also went to Vancouver and Washington state as well

My honeymoon was in Hawaii. I think it's ideal for newlyweds. Very romantic and fun.

Do you want a winter location? Or more of a place to get away from winter?

I've heard Jackson Hole is a good winter location.

Depends on when and where.

I live there, in Honolulu, part of the year ... albeit downtown in a condo overlooking the Ala Wai Canal and Waikiki ... but there are good places and bad to honeymoon in the chain ... some are just too commercialized IMHO, not to mention too expensive for most newlyweds IMHO.

We went to Boston/Martha's Vineyard/Cape Cod in early November and loved it.

December could be dicey with the weather.

It was obviously out of season for MV and the Cape but we stayed at this B&B and rented a car and we had a great time - beautiful place and it was kind of neat to be there when it was not crowded and just locals.

Had a kid get married this past December. He and his bride spent their honeymoon in Key West. Gave it rave reviews, fwiw.

The Ice Caves under the Mendenhall Glacier are one of the most awesome places I've been. Lots of honeymooners make the trip. Winter is the best time to do it, you can walk across the lake and it's not melting all over your head. Plus it's more stable.

If it was me, it would be as close to the equator as I could get.
