Edit: AND THE WINNER IS The BBQ Shop....see page 2 for pics!!!
I'll be passing through Memphis in a couple of days and stopping for lunch. I've never eaten at any of the BBQ joints. So I'm looking for your absolute favorite, and the must haves from the menu. Thanks. I'm hungry!

central BBQ near south main or on central ave is awesome. I suggest the BBQ nachos. The rendevous is good but it takes forever and has a massive crowd usually, good dry rub. If youre feeling dangerous BJs hotwings in the hood has great wings

Central is good, Jim Neely's Interstate used to be good or Germantown Commissary.

Had Rendevous today. Never again.
Central BBQ and Germantown Commisary is much better.

Went to rondevous this summer and was sorely disappointed in the ribs. Way too tough. No fall off the bone action at all. Next day, went to Memphis BBQ Co in Southaven and was blown away. Forgot who the pit master is but they had many throphies and awards on display. The ribs were amazing and the brisket was a no knife needed situation

That was my experience today. Tough ribs. Tea too sweet. Sides sucked and they acted like they didn't GAF. Will never go back.

Don't listen to these other posters... BBQ Shop on Madison ... Next to Mercury Valet dry cleaners... Regular Rib order dry and get the polish sausage , Bologna, and cheese plate for an app... Ask for the owner and tell him I sent you.

Can't remember the place but it was a run down joint on some side street I wound up in after some Horse Cops helped me out. That is where they were going for lunch, good place but not much to look at from the outside.

BBQ Shop on Madison and Paynes on Lamar.
Central is shitty.

Central is not shitty and Paynes is not even open anymore.

Central is Corkys with more sauce options. The meat is dry and the cole slaw is comedically bad. I wouldn't feed it to a dog.
Paynes is absolutely still open. I had a BBQ bologna a few weeks ago. I guess all those people that checked in on their Facebook page the past few days are lying though? It's all some vast conspiracy to make your dumbass look wrong.
Literally everything you said was wrong.

I wouldn't say Central is shitty...but I have not been to a Central since they opened up the Downtown location.
BBQ Shop is my favorite though.

They're trying to be Corky's. 3 locations and counting.
There are so many actually good places to go instead.
