Looks like Fayetteville might get clocked

12z GFS with a healthy batch of snow for NW Arkansas

A negatively tilted trough with a jet streak entrance region aligned over North Texas will allow for a surface low to form in that general area. Strong upper level divergence all across the region via terms 2 and 3 of the ageostrophic wind equation:

Positive vorticity advection pumping out of the base of the trough at 500 mb providing spin and lift:

Once the mid-latitude cyclone cranks up it will tap into plenty of Gulf moisture. Pumping it up and over into Arkansas. NW Arkansas right in the TROWAL region bullseye:

Location of the mid-latitude cyclone at 9 pm Tuesday:

As saturated a column as you'll ever get for NW Arkansas. Entire column below freezing. Dendritic snow growth region saturated with abundant lift. This is a snow cranker:

Is a state that gets a solid snow storm several times a year really in the south?

What they’re gonna get Tuesday night doesn’t happen several times a year.

This could be more than a footer. Fayetteville averages 7 inches of snow a year.

College Station averages a different 7 inches.

The mountains in the northwest part of the state. The rest of the state sometimes goes years without anything more than a light dusting

I lived in Arkansas for a bit then had 2nd home later (sold it about a decade ago)

I remember the big snow in the late 70's but it is not what I would define as a heavy snow state.

We get snow at least a few times a year in Fayetteville, but a foot is unusual.

I recall the over two foot snow we had a while back. That was nuts.

We've had I think three little snows this fall/winter but nothing major. We also have years where we get no snow. The norm is a few snows.

Its going to suck. Snow is fine though. I can live with snow. I'll load up on groceries.

Ice is what will kill you though. A big ice storm is a nightmare.

Nothing but rain in southern Arkansas, I guess some folks don’t know that the entire state is not in nw Arkansas.
