To drone or not to drone in your neighborhood. That is the question.

Would you have done the same? Should it be considered invasion of privacy? Or do you think it's justified that the guy was arrested for shooting down the drone?

“Well, I came out and it was down by the neighbor’s house, about 10 feet off the ground, looking under their canopy that they’ve got under their back yard," Merideth said. "I went and got my shotgun and I said, ‘I’m not going to do anything unless it’s directly over my property.’"
That moment soon arrived, he said.
"Within a minute or so, here it came," he said. "It was hovering over top of my property, and I shot it out of the sky."
It wasn't long before the drone's owners appeared.
"Four guys came over to confront me about it, and I happened to be armed, so that changed their minds," Merideth said.
A short time later, Merideth said the police arrived.
"There were some words exchanged there about my weapon, and I was open carry – it was completely legal," he said. "Long story short, after that, they took me to jail for wanton endangerment first degree and criminal mischief...because I fired the shotgun into the air."

If it's below 200' and above my property it's fair game.

Rednecks take their property so seriously. Who gives a shite if it flies over your yard? What's so private about your yard? "Oh shite, I hope they don't see what fertilizer I'm using."

Eh, it's not just "rednecks". I wouldn't be real thrilled if someone I didn't know was flying a drone (that has the capability to film and record) over my house and low enough that it was essentially meddling in my property. Seems to be pretty close in line with trespassing to be honest.

Yeah, the redneck probably didn't need much of an excuse to run for his shotgun.
But drone operators ought to use some common sense and stay off of other people's property.

Yes, it's a blatant invasion of privacy. It was obvious the drone's owner was snooping. The shooter should not have been charged.

Pretty much that.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the charges dropped. Cops probably didn't know what to do and wanted to diffuse the situation so they snagged the guy with the gun.

I have a lot of money invested in this technology, but it's all probably going straight down the toilet....

Would've shot the shite out of it. Especially if I thought they were filming my children like this guy did.
I bet those frickin' nerds won't be flying drones over another persons property anytime soon.

Honestly, the thought of drone proliferation doesn't bother me.
But if one comes within range, it's time for target practice

I would take it out if I thought they were spying on me. If it's going overhead and not too close, then no

I'm sure there are laws in that neighborhood about discharging firearms. You can't shoot within the city limits in my town.

The law says that a person owns the airspace above their land to the extent that they can use it. Well, as far as I'm concerned, my land uses the rays of the sun that come from ninety million miles away. Ergo, I own the land above me all the way to the sun. Ergo, get off my lawn frickin drones.

I worked a lot at Creech AFB many years ago when the predator was just going operational and I thought it was so cool. Years later as that mil tech became available to civilians I knew it would be a problem.
Simply put, I think the cons outweigh the pros for drones at this time. Provided I wasn't endangering anyone else, I would shoot the frick out of one of those things if it was hovering around my back yard.

Pretty much this ^.
NC already addressed this. Civilians can't use drones on public land/space, and they damn well can't fly them into their neighbor's yards.
However, the kick in the nuts with that law is that a law enforcement operator can fly the drone "anywhere in their plain view of sight" and that means onto private land as well. They're also allowed to fly drones onto private lands where gatherings might take place.

You mean they snagged the only guy that actually committed a crime.
