First, you are very wrong about this; some teachers are insane about it. Second, if no one takes it seriously, why say it at all? Might as well be pledging allegiance to toilet paper.

When you really start to look at the wording and what the pledge actually says, and read up on the history of it, it's really kind of creepy and discomforting.

We're not nearly as wildly nationalistic as we were up to the 1980s. I don't like the idea of pledging every day. Maybe at the beginning of the school year. I think it should be special, not something that's rote and mundane.

I prefer discussing opposing viewpoints than agreeing with everything. If I see something I agree with, i'll probably just up vote it.
