I read one about rough-housing with your young kids, which turns out is fairly important to their development, even girls, but it did say to let them get the better of you sometimes.

The study I read claimed that if you let them win at games too often they grow up feeling more entitled and become less successful in life bc they aren't willing to work as hard.

On the other hand it said if you never let them win they grow up with a defeatist attitude and are not as successful bc they don't see the point in trying as hard.

As with everything in life, moderation is key.

You not only not let her win, but you humiliate her as much as possible by constantly mocking her for her ineptness both during the game and afterward. Then talk about it in front of her friends. Post stuff on facebook.

Oh...and it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to sign up for match.com. Be ahead of the game.

Back when I was dating my wife, I played her dad in tennis. She kept telling me how good he was so I started out playing up to my level. After I bruised his side with a serve, I had to turn it down a notch.

It's not just video games. Board games, sports, road trip games, etc.. were discussed.

Yep.

That and the fact that some parents act like every little thing their kids do is some great accomplishment.

I don't know. My dad never let me win in basketball growing up. He'd use his height advantage and just completely wreck me. The games got closer and closer the older I got, but I could never get the better of him. I've always been shorter than him so he always had the physical advantage. I never felt down or anything about it. It made me want to try even harder and keep practicing. He seemed really tore up when I finally did beat him. I was about 16-17 and he was 38.

Well it's not just one thing. Imagine if you had never beaten your parents at anything. Also, I'm talking about at a really young age like <6 years old.

There are obviously cases where, like yourself, it makes the kid want to work that much harder though. It's not an foolproof study.

I can see that. I did win at other things at a pretty young age.

You let her feel like she can win, display your superiority at times but let it stay close to keep it fun, and then crush her dreams in the end.

never let her win, but mine's a good sport. I used to dominate her at Mario Kart, but she's started catching up and winning sometimes.

This

My wife can kick my arse at scrabble, so we never play. When we are playing backgammon I want to see tears in her eyes.

arse kicking gets old for a while.

What is most fun is to let them be close every time. If you are confident in your abilities, let them be winning going into the 4th quarter, home stretch, whatever you are playing.

Then pull out the victory at the very end for a crushing defeat.

Do this every single time. After enough victories they will swear they won't ever play you again. But they always come back because they were so close to victory that last time.

Even if you tell them that you weren't trying till the end, the will never believe you. It is glorious.

You have to treat most women like pets. Lots of "oh aren't you just a good little girl", "so pretty", etc.

Let her win.

Sounds too puppy-o-centric.·OTOH, cats and their IDGAF, pet me, praise me, oh frick you a-hole, don't you dare ignore me, mercurial ways are far more useful in understanding the realities at hand. A puppy is just happy to see you. Cats make you work every waking minute.
