Nashville by a mile. If schools are concern, then you want Williamson County. It is the best district in the state. My oldest is in Kindergarten and we have been very happy with the school.

Your housing budget would be tight in Brentwood and Franklin. Thompsons Station and Spring Hill might be places to consider.

If you are looking for a home in Nashville, I can recommend a great agent that will be happy to give you the lay of the land about the different neighborhoods around the city.

Supposing Nashville is the choice, what neighborhoods should I be considering?

What's your price range?

For schools, if you aren't going to send your kids to Hume Fogg (it's a magnet school. So public, but requires an admissions test), then I'd suggest Williamson County in either Ravenwood HS, Independence HS, Page HS, or Brentwood HS zoning.

ETA: You could also look at MLK magnet. It's in a little sketchier part of town than Hume Fogg (Which is right on Broadway going into downtown) but the two are the only two TN high schools ranked in the national top 100. Worth a look.

Update: interview in Knoxville went well; the interview in Nashville went very well. Each entity said I should expect word within a few weeks, though I'm hoping for an offer from a local firm to expedite.

Also, we received what could be considered a good omen for a move: some family is tucking flyers under welcome mats looking to buy in our neighborhood - super duper sellers' market in The Woodlands (TX) right now.
